Furious mom asked a clerk if he had kids after blaming game store for her son playing Resident Evil — his matter-of-fact reply caught her off guard
When children encounter mature content in public places, it can sometimes leave parents wondering who should be responsible for keeping them away from it. A Reddit user who goes by u/NoHelmetsInHell overheard an interaction at a game store and later shared it in a post on Monday, August 10, 2026. They recalled a mother confronting a store clerk after her son played a mature video game. After the conversation got heated, she asked the employee if he had any kids, trying to prove her point. However, what he said was totally unexpected.
According to the Reddit post, the woman became furious when she saw her son playing an adult game at the store. She told the clerk that it was his responsibility to make sure children played age-appropriate games. The worker explained that the store’s policy did not require employees to monitor which demos customers chose. When she pointed out whether that meant minors could play Resident Evil, the man calmly replied, “Your son chose to play Resident Evil. It’s not my job to make him play Super Mario.” The woman then asked to speak with the supervisor, and then followed up by asking the person if he had children, and the answer was unexpectedly blunt: “I’m a sperm donor, ma’am, so probably.”
While it took a hilarious turn, the incident also highlights the importance of parents' involvement in assisting children with video game choices. A study published in Sage Journals on the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) found that children were less likely to play violent video games when their parents set restrictions and adhered to the rating system. The researchers also linked these efforts to fewer bad behaviors at school. In another similar story, a former Starbucks shift lead found herself handling an angry customer after a drink triggered a severe dairy allergy. The man had ordered a “chai tea latte with apple juice” without mentioning the allergy, and came back furious when it triggered symptoms. Trying to defuse the matter, the lead intervened and pointed out that the word “latte” naturally indicates milk. And since he made no mention that he wanted to omit the dairy, there was no way the barista would have guessed it. She still apologized for the frightening reaction and reminded consumers that such details need to be clearly communicated when ordering.
