Grandparents always favored other grandkids — then heartbroken 7-yr-old granddaughter's outburst gave them a reality check

The grandparents favored the cousins because their parents made less money than the girl's parents, but some things didn't make sense.

There are several situations between an adult and a child where the adult is in the wrong. The person might not want to accept it and that can be very difficult for the child. A woman's daughter called out her grandparents on their very evident favoritism towards her cousins. The granddad was mad but the mom didn't want to punish her daughter because, in her opinion, she didn't do anything wrong. So the mom, u/OtherwiseYard2922, turned to Reddit to share the situation and get other people's perspectives.

"My husband and I are slightly more well off than my sisters' family. Because of this, my parents do more for them than they do for us. When it comes to gifts my daughter (Maddie 7) gets things from the Dollar Store while my nephews get whole Lego sets, iPads and even Disney trips," the woman began. "If my sister needs babysitting they will drop everything for her last minute. If I need it I have to give them a two weeks heads up as well as proper payment." The mom explained that because of all these factors, the girl doesn't have a good relationship with her mom's parents and immediately thinks of her paternal grandparents and forgets she has two pairs.

"Earlier today we had a rare meet-up with my parents. My daughter asked if she could go on the trampoline outside. My dad said no because it’s for my nephews," the mom recounted. "My daughter begged but Dad still said no. Maddie then stomps away and says, 'This is why I like other grandma and grandpa more.' My parents looked at me expectantly but I didn’t do anything." She went on, "I recently got off a call with my mom saying I should have told Maddie that was wrong to say. I asked her what did you expect. She thinks y’all hate her and y’all do nothing to dispel those thoughts. She just got quiet for a bit then said I still shouldn’t let her say something like that to family and hung up."

"Just got off the phone with my uncle. Apparently, Dad called him ranting about how disrespectful we are. This all stems from my going to college. Dad said since I had to be all hoity toity and go to college I shouldn’t need his help and I should be living the easy life. He also said I’m selfish for trying to take help away from those who need it," the woman wrote in an update. Many people took to the comments section of the thread to support the mom and daughter. They even suggested that the mom shouldn't bring the girl to her parent's house if they treat her like that.

It’s not a consumable and could be used by all of them." Another user commented, "This was my childhood - my grandmother told me that I wouldn’t be getting a Christmas present because my male cousins wanted surfboards and they were expensive, but I shouldn’t take it personally it’s just that she doesn’t really like girls. Never saw her again. She also never saw her favorite son, my dad, again." u/PolkaDotDancer remarked, "I suspect this is as much because sister had boys as it is about money."
