Grieving mom found a label reading ‘Anaya’ after asking God for a sign — one Google search for its meaning stopped her in her tracks
Small signs can feel deeply personal when someone is searching for comfort during a painful time. For content creator Jess Nesham, a walk outside became an emotional moment during a difficult period of grief. She had been struggling with the loss of her son, while also facing his third birthday since his death and Mother's Day without him. One day, she decided to step away from her desk and use a lunchtime walk to speak openly to God. She asked for a clear sign that her prayers were being heard, and shortly afterward, she noticed a label marked "Anaya" in an unexpected place. A quick Google search of the name's meaning left her stunned. Her experience was later shared through her Instagram account @jessnesham_.
After finishing her prayer, Jess continued walking near a pond and noticed something caught among the reeds. It looked like a small pickup tag from a business, but one word printed across it caught her attention: "Anaya." She nearly walked past it before turning around to pick it up. She then searched the word online, and the first result stopped her, 'Anaya,' a multicultural word meaning "God has answered." The meaning gave the simple tag a much deeper meaning for her. She had just asked God for a clear sign, and then found a word that appeared to answer the exact question she had been carrying.
The content creator explained that grief had left her feeling emotionally drained and unable to find much relief. She described having tears come without trying to cry and how she had been struggling with personal matters, health concerns, and the weight of everything happening around her. She decided that speaking to God during her walk might help her feel less alone. Before noticing the tag, she had asked for "some progress, some forward motion, some reassurance." Finding the name directly after that prayer made the moment feel meaningful. Jess ended the moment by repeating the meaning she had found: "God answers."
Sometimes, all it takes is strong faith and sincere prayers to bring a little hope when it is needed most. In another incident, a woman faced a painful setback after losing her bank job because of an $800 mistake. She left work feeling upset and uncertain about what she would do next. On the train ride home, she cried and tried to process the sudden change. Instead of staying focused on the loss, she turned to prayer and thanked God for the time she had spent in the job. Her sadness soon gave way to an unexpected moment that changed the direction of her day.
Shortly after praying, she played a worship song when her phone rang. A man on the other end told her that his sister had spoken highly of her kindness and service at the bank. He believed those qualities could make her a good fit for his company. The opportunity had arrived just moments after she prayed, making the timing especially meaningful to her. Looking back, she said, “All you need is faith.”
