True partnership shows when people choose to honor each other’s feelings and comfort. When a groom's friends kept nudging him to smash the wedding cake on his bride's face,  she began to look at the groom nervously. However, his reply left her heart warm. Sharing the adorable video with her TikTok followers on January 23, 2026, the bride, Sarah Grace Smith, who goes by @sgsmith1029, revealed how his response made her feel on their big day.

@sgsmith1029 he knew from the day we got engaged that no frosting was allowed anywhere near my face, and he respected that boundary 🤏🏻🤏🏻🤏🏻 (the bare minimum mind you) #wedding #fyp #2025bride #weddinginspo ♬ original sound - Sarah Grace Smith

TikTok user Sarah Grace Smith and her husband were celebrating their big day by cutting the wedding cake when the groom's friends persuaded him to "take her out" by smashing the cake on her face. In the video posted by the bride, the groom's friends can be seen howling and hooting, encouraging him to dunk her face into the cake, in hopes of getting a hilarious reaction. However, as Smith watched her groom nervously, his response instantly melted her heart. Looking at his friends, the groom said, "Too much money on makeup." Following his wholesome reaction, Smith couldn't help but admire her husband for being a total green flag.

The bride took to TikTok to share the video and wrote about the importance of letting your fiancé know how much it costs to do bridal makeup. She even admired him for respecting her boundaries. "He knew from the day we got engaged that no frosting was allowed anywhere near my face, and he respected that boundary (the bare minimum, mind you)."

Some people think it's funny to humiliate others and expect them to take no offense because it's "just a joke." However, what many people don't realize is that our jokes and pranks must never come at the cost of someone else's dignity. When his friends cheered for him to smash cake on her face, he could have easily given in. However, his decision to respect her boundaries spoke volumes about the kind of husband he intended to be.

Soon after the post gained massive traction, the video drew mixed reactions from internet users. While many hailed the husband for choosing to be a gentleman, others criticized his friends for trying to persuade him through the hoots and cheers. @allie mentioned, "The only acceptable 'smearing of cake' I've seen was the groom smudging a little bit of frosting a little to the right of the bride's mouth and kissing it off. Sounds wack, but it was very cute and very sweet."

@falin touden irl remarked, "My grandma told me at my sister's wedding that she told her not to do the cake smash thing because it was bad luck. We both watched them do it, and I heard my grandma sigh. About a year later, she was filing for divorce." @Cyber-Skyler noted, "'Take her out,' brother, is this a wedding or boxing match? Oh my God!"
