Going out of one's way to help is one of the most humane things a person can do. Looking around, you’ll see that someone or the other needs help everywhere. Some could need finances and resources, others could need encouragement and support. You never know what a person is going through till you actually step out and offer to help. e-commerce company Amazon shared a video of their driver, Brandon Alderson, who had no idea he’d come across a life-saving encounter while he was on his way driving. However, as soon as the young man noticed a middle-aged person at the side of the road, behaving seemingly strangely, he rushed to help.

On Facebook, Alderson’s dad Neil shared the dashcam video footage that captured the scenario. The young man was driving his truck to work as usual when he spotted a middle-aged man halted by the road. His car was parked, the door open and the man had been uncomfortably walking around. On turning around and getting closer, Alderson saw the man getting breathless and struggling. “I put my thumb up to ask if everything was alright but I knew something was wrong,” Alderson said. He immediately asked if he needed help and the elderly man tried walking towards the truck.

“He pointed towards his throat,” the young man recalled. He shared that he had become a lifeguard for a year and had some training on what to do. Alderson got out of his vehicle and quickly tried communicating with the man. Struggling to speak, he motioned for the Heimlich maneuver, per The Sun. The latter is done when a person’s airway is obstructed. Giving it his best, Alderson performed the maneuver by holding the man from behind, below the ribcage and pulling him upwards to clear the obstruction.

After demonstrating this 6 times, the man felt relieved. Alderson went on to pat his back to assist in clearing the discomfort. Soon, the man felt much better and could thank and communicate with the young man. “When it worked, I was over the moon,” Alderson exclaimed. The duo had an inaudible conversation for a few minutes before Alderson got back into his truck. His sharp action saved the man's life. “The advice I’d give to another driver is just to be calm, be aware of your surroundings and focus on your driving,” the man said.

“One proud dad. Brandon saved someone's life yesterday at the right place at the right time. Good on you son,” Neil wrote in his caption. Several people, including those from Alderson’s family, praised his astute thinking and kind help. Ellie Alderson exclaimed, “Well done Brandon, absolutely amazing. A literal lifesaver. I bet that man is so grateful you saw him when you did and chose to help.” Bell Smile added, “I know what it's like to get that maneuver and it's scary. Well done!” Stacey Clarke mentioned, “Well done.. fast, quick thinking.” Rachel Louise Baker shared, ‘Incredible to see that and turn round so fast, I don't know you but as another human, well done and thank you! You are the good this world needs far more of!”
