Heartbroken grandma who had to put husband in hospice breaks down over wholesome surprise by grandson

Not everyone gets the privilege to spend quality time with their aging grandparents. However, people do understand how important it is to make the elderly members of their families feel loved. A woman named Michaela Freda, who goes by @michaelafreda on TikTok, captured a sweet moment when she and her family decided to surprise their granny Margie. The heartfelt video showed Margie at a store, looking around the shelf to pick up a pumpkin pie.

According to Inspire More, Margie had experienced a rough year. Not only did she lose her oldest grandson but she also had to make the difficult decision of putting her husband in hospice. Fortunately, Freda and her family continued to look out for Margie and kept finding ways to make her happy. The family decided to do something special for Margie the week her husband was put in hospice care. In the TikTok video, Margie was filmed while approaching a store counter. 

A woman at the counter greeted Margie as the elderly lady asked where was the pumpkin pie that she was supposed to pick up. However, Freda's brother who was training in the military in Arizona, showed up unexpectedly behind the store's counter. “Is that what you are looking for? Is there anything else I can help you with today?" Freda's brother said while handing over the pumpkin pie to his granny. Margie took a while to process what was going on and she couldn't recognize her grandson at first.

"Anything else, Grandma?” Margie's grandson quipped again from behind the counter. "Oh my god!" Margie exclaimed when she finally recognized her grandson, who she thought was away for his military training. Freda's brother went over the counter to give his grandma a tight hug as the old lady broke down. The comments section got emotional along with the Freda family, while some wondered why Margie couldn't recognize her grandson at first.

"She has macular degeneration and is very hard of hearing. She could only see the outlines of people and dark shapes so no she couldn’t recognize him," Freda clarified in one of the comments about Margie's deteriorating health condition. @dionnes971 mentioned, "She didn’t process that he was calling her grandma. Best surprise ever. That’s right, give her the biggest hug ever." @elsasaenz0 remarked, "She looked so sad in the beginning and you brought some light and love back into her heart!"

@allen.veteran wrote, "Heartbroken and happy at the same time. I’ve been there with the loss of my dad. Happy Thanksgiving to your family." @kathy3957 commented, "That was so awesome and tears flowed. The look on Grandma’s face when she realized. She held on tight!" @cryst_alnicole added, "I work in an inpatient hospice unit and I always feel for families when they have to leave and attempt to do normal daily tasks. This is why they say, be kind because you never know what someone is going through." @go_catsss added, "I’m not sure why but she immediately looked like a vulnerable little girl when she melted into your hug.
