Henry Cavill reveals his pet dog saved his 'emotional and psychological' health plenty of times

It's not just regular people who turn to canines and other pets for companionship and emotional support. Celebrities need the help of fur buddies to manage their mental health and stress after a long day at work, too. Hollywood A-lister and "Man of Steel" fame Henry Cavill's life is no different. The actor gained popularity playing the iconic role of "Superman." Sustaining himself in the industry would have been a difficult job if his canine companion, Kal, had not been by his side. While appearing on the British talk show "Lorraine," hosted by Lorraine Kelly, Cavill credited his dog for saving his mental health.
He also brought in Kal to sit in like a well-mannered fellow during the talk show episode where he promoted his Netflix show, "The Witcher." “He really is my best friend,” the actor said about his American Akita during the interview. “We go everywhere together. He’s 8 now and he has saved my emotional and psychological bacon plenty of times.” Cavill continued that he and Kal have an incredibly close bond. Kelly chimed in to say that humans don't deserve dogs as they are such pure souls.

Cavill, who had hung up his "Superman" cape, continued to take up more iconic roles in the industry. “You look back and you just think, what a wonderful opportunity. And even if I were to stop acting tomorrow and go live on a yacht or boat somewhere, a sailing boat and just travel. I can still look back and say I’ve worn a cape and leaped about the place and entertained some people," he mentioned to Kelly. However, it wasn't the first time Cavill had gushed over his furry best friend.
In 2022, he took to his Facebook page and wrote a post appreciating Kal, reintroducing him to his fans. "For those who do not know, this is Kal, my dog. He's been the guardian of my soul for 8+ years now. He is beyond compare. He's an American Akita and has traveled the world with me without a peep of complaint. Always watching, often quiet but with a bark that can make the saucepans ring! Cheers to Kal!" the caption of his post read alongside a closeup shot of Kal. Numerous others dropped in the comment section to share pictures of their own dogs and give them all the appreciation and gratitude they deserved.
After the passing of Cavill and his partner Natalie Viscuso's dog, Meat, the couple brought in a new addition to their furry family. Back in 2023, Cavill introduced their second French bulldog named Baggins and posted a picture of the pup playing with Kal. "There is no replacing Meatboi but Natalie and I have opened a new chapter in our lives, in a few ways and this little chap is one of them!" Cavill wrote on his Facebook post. "This is Baggins! Kal is a rather grumpy old man and Baggins is ever enthusiastic to make friends. Baggins is a little wonder and also a little terror, just as puppies should be and he is indeed nourishing our hearts."
