High School sweethearts were heartbroken when they parted ways — then a Spotify playlist brought them back together
A person's Spotify playlist might tell a lot about their personality. But one couple's individual Spotify playlists helped them express their love to each other after being separated for a long time. The couple, Kayla Santel and Trenton Miller, had met each other in high school and started dating soon after that. However, after 10 years, both of them mutually decided to part ways. None of them knew that a Spotify playlist would help them meet once again, per Good Morning America.
"We had our first kiss in high school. That's when the love story started," Trenton shared. They had to break up because of things beyond their control. "It broke both of our hearts, but we thought it was the best thing at the time. And so that's when we kind of parted ways." Neither of them had social media accounts and hadn't been in touch for quite some time since they broke up. Trenton decided to make a Spotify playlist to express his feelings, but had no idea that his message would actually reach Kayla. "I, of course, made my playlist and there were subtle hints in it." The man had also named his playlist "alasKa," the capital K used to show that the playlist was for Kayla.
Kayla came across the playlist on the platform and had a strong feeling that the playlist was about her. "I know him. I know our relationship and I was like, 'This has to be about me.' He is currently thinking about me," Kayla expressed. So she also made a Spotify playlist in response to Trenton's playlist. The title of Kayla's playlist was "This is about you." Trenton saw the playlist and added three more tracks to his own after that. "Music has always been her love language." The three songs that Trenton had added as a "call to action" to his playlist read, "If you see this, speak now. I want you back."
The songs were from artists After the Apocalypse, Taylor Swift and The Jackson 5, respectively. Kayla ended up calling Trenton the next day and he proposed to her soon after. He also included the letters they had written to each other throughout their relationship in his proposal setup. The man had also held onto one special card that Kayla had written to him at the beginning of college. "It just said, 'I love you. Always have and always will,'" Kayla went on. The man had kept it in his wallet all those years and it was wrinkled after being there for so much time. "The times that we weren't talking, I'd just take that out and look at it. It would just bring me comfort."
They ended up getting married in Las Vegas and "Elvis" was the officiant at their wedding. Everyone cheered as the couple posed for photos at the end of the ceremony. They hadn't spoken to each other in over a year before they got back together. As the playlist had been updated very recently, Kayla knew that Trenton had been thinking about her and perhaps wanted to get back together. Teddy Swims, Trenton's favorite artist, also came to know about the beautiful twist in the couple's love story. He ended up reaching out to the couple with a video for their wedding.
