Being in a new country all alone isn't the easiest thing to manage. However, one old woman from Cuba found herself in such a situation when her flight back from America got delayed. On top of that, she didn't speak English and didn't know how she would manage. But a man was on his way back home from a work trip and decided to help the old lady, Norma. Then his partner went above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and safe, per a Reddit post by the wife, u/musesx9.

"This was several years ago. My husband was returning from his flight in New York for work," the woman recounted. The man met the old lady in her 70s while he was waiting. Norma had been given permission to come to the States to look after her sick child and was trying to go back to her home country by herself. She had a layover in Miami, where the family lived. "He helped her throughout the airport craziness and when their flight was delayed, she started to cry because she had no friends or family in Miami." The woman didn't speak English and was scared because of the whole ordeal. She had decided to sleep at the airport as her last resort.

"My husband called me from the airport and asked me if this little old lady could stay at our house since she was bumped to an early flight the next morning," the wife recalled. He explained everything to her and the woman felt really bad for Norma. "I moved my daughter from her bed, remade the bed with new sheets and had some hot food waiting for them. When she came in, she cried." The old lady couldn't believe the amount of kindness the family showed her. They also contacted her family in New Jersey and told them that she was with them and safe. "She was scheduled on the red-eye the next morning. We woke up early, I made her a cafecito and tostada and then my husband took her to the airport." The couple also sent some money for Norma's family in Cuba.

"We received an email from her family, thanking us profusely for taking care of Norma, their grandmother." The woman added, "I think of her often and hope she is okay. A lot has changed since that night. My kids are grown and my mother, also named Norma, has since passed." People shared their thoughts on the couple's kind gesture for Norma in the comments section of the thread. u/NotMyCicuits wrote, "Lovely gesture. Being stranded anywhere that doesn't speak my native language is a fear of mine. Thank you for reaching out with kindness." u/ImaginationTop5390 commented, "Angels are everywhere. You and your husband were hers. Thank you for being so kind and selfless."

u/Chamcook11 remarked, "My family has a story about the kindness of strangers. It has been passed down as an example of how to be kind when you can. I am sure Sra. Norma's family will use your story as such a touchstone. My great-grandmother, a widow, was traveling by train across the continent with her 4 children, all under 10. It was the 1890s. She was returning to her home settlement and she had no money for a private sleeper compartment. A kind stranger paid for 2 nights in a sleeper for her and the children, the eldest of whom became my grampie."
