Man moved out after breaking up with his girlfriend—then paid off her entire mortgage for a priceless reason
Many couples make sweet gestures for each other while they are in a relationship. However, no one would expect their ex to make grand gestures for them. So a woman, Cat Keenan, was really surprised when her ex-boyfriend, Shaun Nyland, paid off her mortgage as a 31st birthday gift for her after their breakup. The couple parted ways back in February 2021. The two of them also share a son, Leo and co-parent him. They are on amicable terms with each other, but still, the gift was quite unexpected for Cat, according to a now-deleted video shared on Shaun's TikTok page, @shaun.nyland, per Wales Online.
Shaun came in to greet Cat, who goes by @itscatkeenan on TikTok and gave her a set of house keys. He explained how she owned the place now and didn't have to worry about the mortgage at all. Cat was reasonably confused and couldn't understand if Shaun was being serious. Nonetheless, Shaun confirmed that he had really paid the mortgage and wanted her to have a great life. "Well, it's your birthday today and I want you to have the best birthday ever. I know we're not together anymore and you've been struggling to pay off the mortgage every single month and I'm so proud of you, you're the best mum ever," Shaun expressed in the clip, per the outlet.
He continued, "So I did something, I rang up the bank, I paid off the entire mortgage, this house now belongs to you." Cat took a moment to process what had happened and let it sink in. Her house had been decorated for her 31st birthday when Shaun came in to give her the news. She gave the man a big hug for the wonderful gift he had given her on her special day. "You deserve it," the man went on. Cat received an email from her bank that confirmed Shaun's claim. Her entire mortgage had been taken care of. The exact amount of the mortgage was not disclosed, but it was a six-figure sum. The couple had bought the house together back in 2019, while they were still dating.
Shaun wanted Cat to have the house to herself. The couple dated for seven years and also built TikTok profiles with millions of followers during that time. However, it wasn't easy for the couple to work with each other all the time. "We were working 24/7, getting on each other's nerves. So we decided to go our separate ways," Cat explained. The woman stayed in the house and the man moved back with his parents. But the breakup took a toll on Cat and she couldn't post content as often. Because TikTok was her only income stream, it was getting harder for her to manage her finances.
Shaun noticed that something was up with her and decided to help. "I wanted to take that pressure off her. If I am able to do it, then why not? I wanted to keep a roof over her and Leo's head and take the pressure off Cat." The woman added, "When we were together, there was more work coming in. Going alone was a struggle. It was a huge shock when Shaun did what he did." Shaun continued that he wanted Leo to see his parents share a good relationship even after their breakup. "For me, it's how co-parenting should be. I know not everyone has the ability to do what I've done, but children should come first."
