Man overheard chronically ill 9-year-old ask to see a hockey game — days later, his parent found something unexpected waiting in their inbox
Parents hope to give their children the best, especially if they are battling a health condition and already struggling. A parent who goes by u/Goatfellon shared a post on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, revealing how they wanted to do the same for their 9-year-old son, who had a chronic illness. When the boy asked whether they could go watch the Toronto Maple Leafs, the parent explained that they couldn’t afford it. To their surprise, a man had been overhearing their conversation. After learning the reason, he stepped up with a mind-boggling gesture.
The 9-year-old has ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. He was at an infusion, a medical procedure to deliver medication or fluids to the body, when he asked his parent if they could go and watch the game and was honestly told that it was not affordable for his folks. In that moment, it seemed like a stranger was simply overhearing their conversation. Later, the parent was stoked to find “that man’s email, and a pair of his season tickets to see the Leafs play the New Jersey Devils in my inbox.” The seats were at center ice, and the person noted that it was something they never would have been able to manage. Calling it the “nicest moment of kindness,” they remarked that they were "blown away" by the generosity.
As for the 9-year-old, he was beyond excited after hearing the good news. He has been talking about it nonstop and can’t wait to see the game. “Never been a Leafs fan, and I work the following morning. But the boy is probably going to remember this for the rest of his life,” the parent remarked. The stranger could have ignored or just sympathized, but he chose to do more.
The man’s identity was never revealed; it was also not known whether he already had the tickets and gave them away or managed to acquire them so quickly.
