Man overheard her ask another woman why a ‘smart, independent, beautiful’ woman was single — her reply left him speechless
Ever wondered why beautiful and well-mannered people remain single? TikTok user Jourdan Davis (@davisjourdan) overheard a woman ask why her friend, who was smart, independent, and beautiful, remained single. However, her unexpected sassy response made his jaw drop. Sharing the hilarious video on February 28, 2026, the man's shocked reaction to the interaction was multiplied after several fellow women admitted feeling relatable to the woman's answer.
Jourdan recently overheard a conversation between two women that stunned him. One of the women asked her friend why she, despite being smart, intelligent, creative, and attractive, is still single. However, the other had an answer that caught him off guard. The friend immediately responded, "I'm overqualified." Two words, and Jourdan was starstruck. He had no idea how to respond to the question, because in a way, it could have been true. And we hear that in so many different forms — "I didn't find anyone good enough," "They aren't as charming or kind," "Have you seen the people out there?" and so on. The list is endless.
According to Cottonwood Psychology, Dr. Jennifer Thompson, a developmental psychologist, explained that many high-achieving and "overqualified" women remain single by choice, as they choose peace over priority. When people realize their worth, they do not want to go through distress in life by settling for someone who is under their league. While most of these individuals are labeled picky, it has more to do with choosing to be with people who align with their values. "You simply know how it feels when your core values do not match. That mismatch drains you, no matter how charming or attractive someone is," she noted. It was also mentioned that such individuals do not wish to waste their time with futile relationships. "You choose connections that leave you steady and alive, not drained and resentful," Thompson added.
Soon after the video went viral, many users shared their reactions to her sassy response. A majority of women agreed with that jaw-dropping remark. @Aisa wrote, "Thing is, I could get a boyfriend, and I do want a boyfriend, but there is no one I want as a boyfriend." @PriscilaDelgado commented, "Overqualified for the wrong people but just perfect for the right one." @keepinitreal444 added, "My best guy friend said this to me one night when I was crying, asking, 'What's wrong with me?' He said, 'You're overqualified.' That stuck!"
Jourdan's video reminded us of divorce lawyer Lena's advice to women for happier lives. Lena urged women to be more selfish like men, instead of lowering their standards to accommodate others. She noted that men are always taught to prioritize their needs, while women are shamed for doing the same. From several of her marital cases, Lena noticed that women who are often forced to be kind and adjusting often end up losing who they really are. She brought up examples of men leaving relationships and abandoning spouses who no longer serve them, while women continue to adjust and carry emotional burdens by hesitating to say no. So girls, be overqualified, you're not losing out.
