Mom feared 3-year-old lost her leg after it was run over by lawn mower — but her pair of Crocs delivered a miracle

When it comes to toddlers and little children, one needs to be extremely careful around them. Even the smallest mishap can lead to something risky and dangerous. Alison Dorton and her family were grateful to experience a miracle after their 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, encountered a serious injury, per PEOPLE. Sophia’s leg was run over by a lawn mower when her mom was away at work. The mom rushed to the hospital, fearing the worst, but noticed that her daughter was saved from the unimaginable due to something unbelievable. 

Alison was at work when she received a message that her 3-year-old was badly injured. Her teenage son informed his mother that it was “just a cut,” but Alison was terrified when she heard her husband in the background speaking to a 911 dispatcher. Sophia had been playing on the lawn while her dad was mowing and met with an accident. "I went back to my trainer, and she asked if everything was okay. I was so in shock that I said, 'No? At least I don’t think so? My 3-year-old was run over by a lawnmower but I don’t know how bad it is?'” she recalled. Alison hurried home, unsure what to expect, with the only news that her little girl was injured due to a lawn mower. That thought can bring a lot of scary conclusions. 

The mom made her way through the driveway. She found her husband and daughter in the ambulance. "It was still very surreal,” Alison said. She couldn’t see much initially, except for skinned toes, as Sophia’s foot was already bandaged. “I asked, and the EMT said, 'Well, it’s not good.' I was still in shock, trying to understand what happened and how bad it was,” the mom recounted. To this point, the mom didn't know what the damage was and she was frozen in worry. The parents drove to the hospital, where Sophia was rushed immediately after first aid. After a frantic wait of 30 minutes, the parents saw their daughter. 

They were relieved to see Sophia safe, apart from a few stitches on her leg. In a video, the tearful mom explained an unbelievable realization she made. "Sophia had her favorite little Crocs on and let me tell you, had she not had those Crocs on, she probably would have lost her foot. It could have been so much worse," the mom noted. She explained that the crocs the 3-year-old was wearing took the brunt of the hit.

"The mower ripped the Croc off and it actually got lodged in the blade, which stopped the mower’s blades," she remarked. She credited the thick crocs which stopped the mower from getting through the girl's foot bones, tendons and internal parts. “This was a freak accident that could have happened to anyone. It just all happened so fast and no one knows what they would do in a situation until they’re actually in it,” the mom wrote in the caption. In a follow-up video, Alison mentioned that Sophia was on her way to recovery.
