Man told his date she should pay because it was 'the least she could do' — she paid the bill, but he wasn't ready for what came next
A single comment across the table can change the entire mood in just a few seconds. Instagram user Michael Brown shared how exactly that happened with a friend named Serena and her date. In a post shared on July 1, 2026, under the username @yourbestiemisha, the creator detailed the woman's experience. When the man told her that she should pay because it was "the least she could do," she was left confused and frustrated. He went on to share an absurd explanation that left her even more enraged. Determined to clap back, she silenced him with simple facts.
Serena described the evening as "awful," saying the man was "so misogynistic." The uncomfortable moment came when the waitress placed the bill on the table, and he confidently said, "She will pay; it's the least she can do." The woman asked what he meant, and he boldly replied that he "makes women pay because it's their tax for building the world they live in." Disgusted by his explanation, she went to the counter, paid only for her meal, and walked out without saying another word. Her date later texted her, claiming that "all women are gold diggers" and wanted equality only until the bill arrived.
When the woman clarified that paying wasn't the issue, calling it "female tax" was, he reiterated that men had built the world, and it was only fitting that women pay up for it. "I don't pay for women, you pay me," he wrote. Serena countered this confidence with one question. "What did you build?" and right enough, the guy had no answer. The person replied that it was "irrelevant" and shifted the conversation elsewhere. He then added that females had become "too masculine" for him these days, only for her to triumphantly end the conversation by writing, "Says the man who asked me to finance his burger." Some first dates begin with excitement but end in disappointment, due to unexpected and bizarre mindsets.
In another incident, a woman shared an uncomfortable experience where a simple dinner plan turned frustrating over the bill. She agreed to split the payment after the man's request, since he wanted to avoid confusion later on. However, while she got one drink, he ordered multiple items, from beverages to appetizers and dessert. She clarified that she would be paying only for what she got, only for her date to argue that it wasn't how splitting works. She remained adamant and refused to pay for his orders. Eventually, she left the restaurant after clearing her dues, ending the meeting there and then.
