Married intern politely declined when a surgeon asked her out — when she remembered his wife worked in the same hospital, she dialled her number
It's easy to be swayed by the charms of someone asking you out, by overlooking one's moral obligations. But what is far more admirable is the courage to stand firm in your values and call people out for their behavior when they cross the line. Married intern Sonia, who goes by @fire_for_women_ on Instagram, was working at her desk when a surgeon who worked there walked up to her to engage in small talk and eventually ask her out. However, what she remembered after declining his offer forced her to quickly dial a number. On May 14, 2026, the woman noted how the events unfolded following the call.
During their conversation, the surgeon asked if Sonia could join him for meals sometime. That's when she revealed to him that she could not go out with him because she was married. He apologized and noted that he wasn’t aware of it. However, as he walked away, it finally struck her that he was married too. "Why did he not tell me that he was married as well?" she noted. She knew his wife, since she too worked as a physician at the same hospital. The realization made her immediately call his wife to inform her about what had happened.
While she was questioned and suspected at first, the wife finally appreciated her for speaking the truth. Recalling the incident from many years ago, Sonia noted that she swore to "whistleblow on the patriarchy" anytime it was necessary. "A lot of women suffer a lot at the hands of entitlement that patriarchy affords to some members of the society," she expressed. According to a report published by the Institute for Family Studies, married men were found to be more promiscuous than women. As per the data, 20% of men and 13% of women have reportedly engaged in extramarital affairs. "Infidelity is painful to the person who is being cheated on and can be detrimental to the relationship," the report noted.
Sonia's post gained massive attention from internet users, who echoed her sentiments in the comments. @sifichick shared, "Ladies, if you find yourself in a situation, tell the wife anonymously. Things could go sideways and get dangerous for you if you don't." @dnoldine_ commented, "Good for you, I have done that indirectly by leaving a note!" @midwesternmom76 wrote, "I was always hit on more when I wore my wedding rings!"
