Mean barista said ‘she really likes to eat’ after congratulating her on pregnancy and realizing she wasn’t — but she made sure he paid for it
Our words have a huge impact on others, and while most people hold back from saying mean things, some never think twice before saying mean things. When Reddit user u/consistent_gasp visited her usual coffee shop, she was body-shamed by the barista, who said, "She really likes to eat" after he mistakenly congratulated her on a pregnancy when she was not. However, the woman wasn't going to let it slide. Her one petty revenge made him instantly regret his decision. Sharing the story on Reddit on January 28, 2026, the user revealed how she handled his backhanded remark.
Barista congratulated me on my pregnancy (not pregnant), then asked for confirmation from my coworker/said something disrespectful about me. It’s on like donkey kong.

The 35-year-old had often visited a cafe across from her workplace for three years and had been a loyal customer. One day, she hopped into the shop to order a grilled cheese and a cold brew, when the barista "congratulated" her on her pregnancy. The Reddit user who wasn't pregnant remained confused for a moment, but when he realized he had made a mistake, he began to amend things; however, the interaction had already turned sour. The customer was shocked when she learned that her coworker was asked by the barista thrice if she was pregnant. This behavior prompted her to call him out to her friends and coworkers, which led to the cafe losing several customers.
The woman learned from her coworker that the barista had gone on to body-shame her and said, "Oh, well, I guess she just really likes to eat." It’s hard to hold back when someone body-shames you. Furious over the comment, the storyteller decided to inform her coworkers, managers, and friends about his remarks, and the cafe began losing more loyal customers. Surprisingly, the cafe also began receiving similar complaints from other customers who faced nasty comments from the barista. The woman shared that she often struggled to manage her weight, but recently she had been at her healthiest. She also expressed her satisfaction with calling out his entitled behavior and putting him on blast.
Soon after her post gained massive traction, many users sided with her. u/lizziegal79 remarked, "Beautiful revenge, because all you did was tell the truth. Congratulations on your hard work!" u/ExternalGiraffe9631 commented, "Never comment on a person's appearance unless it can be changed in 10 seconds. Example: 'You have chorizo on your chin.' is appropriate to say to someone. 'The mole on your chin looks like chorizo' is not appropriate." u/Consistent_Heat_9201 wrote, "He isn’t worth it. He’s ignorant." u/lacasa35 mentioned, "I’m a woman who has been pregnant, and I still never assume another woman is pregnant, let alone a stranger. What an idiot."
