Mom has powerful response after man's awful fat-shaming comment on Delta flight left her 'shaking with anger'

Each body type is unique but people fail to get out of their distorted stigmas and accept human beings the way they are. Body-shaming has been an ongoing issue despite several efforts to maintain body positivity. Moms, in particular, face several judgments for their looks post-pregnancy and have a whole added struggle to deal with. A new mom, Katie Kiacz, shared in a post on Facebook that has since been deleted, how she was fat-shamed on a flight, per The Sun. The woman was traveling on a Delta flight from Orlando to Detroit when a passenger made unruly remarks about her body, per Yahoo News. However, Kiacz responded openly via her post. 

She began her post by addressing the man and the comment he made. “Dear Man on flight DL1723. You referred to me as a ‘2-ton woman,’” she wrote. The mom added, “You told your friend as soon as I boarded and you saw me that it was ‘not good.’ When I confronted you saying, ‘I am not two tons but I did just have a baby,’ you sighed and got up to use the bathroom.” The woman recalled the passenger further asking for a different seat which was declined due to unavailability. Kiacz confidently called out the man for his behavior and his harsh remarks and confidently responded, “I’m glad there were not any (extra seats). I bet you didn’t tell her why you wanted to sit elsewhere, that you said something so heartless and were confronted.” 

The mom went on to mention that the man didn’t apologize nor acknowledge her existence throughout the flight. She also pointed out that she wasn’t looking for validation from him and was specifically writing the post to call him out. “Because I do not exist to please you. Because I will take up as much space as I want. Because even when confronted you, you did not think you were in the wrong, that you did not need to apologize,” she continued. Kiacz poignantly noted that she was glad the man had to spend two hours beside her after the scenario. “I’m only sorry I couldn’t take up more space,” she remarked. 

“In that moment, I was shaking with anger, I was overcome by sadness, and for a moment I was ashamed and self-conscious,” the mom recalled. However, instead of the negatives, she took a stand. “ I had to remind myself of who I was, what I do, and how much I have accomplished and still have to accomplish,” she remarked. Kiacz went on to explain how this kind of judgment is passed only on women and that it is not okay. “Would he have said that had I been a man? Or had my daughter and husband with me? I don’t know. But I do know women deal with these attitudes and behaviors more than men. And I. Am. Over. It,” the mom said. 

While several people applauded the mom, others shared how they suffered a similar plight. A woman noted that she doesn’t fly in fear of being shamed. However, the mom had an even more confident response to render. “I will never stop traveling, especially for some guy who isn’t willing to engage and be kind. If you ever want to travel, I will come to you and fly with you. We have nothing to be ashamed of. Our bodies help us accomplish incredible things and that is always worth celebrating,” she wrote.
