Mom noticed something unusual about her baby’s hair after birth—three years later, the transformation left her stunned
While most kids are born with little to no hair, some infants are blessed with genes similar to those of Rupanzal. When Manchester-based mother Sophie Karis Jones's (@sophiekarisjones) daughter Harlow Emilia was born with thick hair, people told her that she would shed eventually. Yet, her new update in October 2025 over the last 3 years had the internet going awestruck. According to Newsweek, the mother, too, was blessed with good hair genes as a toddler.
On October 3, twenty-seven-year-old mother Sophie Karis Jones shared a post on TikTok that has gone viral for all the right reasons. Jones' daughter, Harlow Emilia, was born with a head full of hair. Speaking to Newsweek, Jones said that despite everyone around her telling her that her daughter's hair would fall out soon, she had an "inkling that she would have hair." Jones also shared that she, too, was born with good hair genes. "I was also born with lots of hair and, during one of my scans, the sonographer actually pointed out some white lines on her head and told me it was hair," Jones said. But to everybody's surprise, when Emilia turned 2 months old, her hair volume never reduced. While it's common for infants to lose their baby hair in a couple of months, it was different in the case of Jones' baby. "I just assumed that maybe she’d lose some of the thickness; however, when she got to 2 months and it was still growing, I knew that it would be here to stay," Jones explained.
In a 2013 study authored by R. Durdu, M. Baba, and G. Seçkin for the Journal of Pediatric Dermatology 45 newborn babies scalp hair density and diameter were analyzed. The findings revealed that birth weight showed a statistically significant correlation with hair density. The study noted that infants with higher birth weights tended to exhibit denser scalp hair, with 15 of the 45 newborns (33%) classified as having "good hair density," while 30 (67%) had "poor hair density." Besides weight, genetic inheritance also plays a key role. Just like Jones, her daughter also received her genes.
In the TikTok post shared by the mother, Jones shared a series of photos of her baby, right from the time she was born to her latest pictures at age 3. At 2 months, the hair density keeps going stronger, while at 6 months, Emilia's hair is long enough to tie it in a tiny topknot. As she turns 3, her locks continue to grow longer and transform from deep brown to a striking ginger hair color. "It was almost like it had been highlighted at the hairdresser's," Jones quipped. Jones revealed that while her kid's hair texture was inherited from her, Emilia's striking red color comes from her father and Jones' husband, Christopher, who is a natural redhead.
Following the post going viral, many users shared their reactions. @elisaodimauro wrote, "What a gorgeous little girl, she has the most beautiful hair colour." @beverly shared, "Meanwhile I had a Mr clean baby that didn’t have hair till after she was one lol." @niffum commented, "She has the most glorious red hair! So blessed!"
