Every parent has dreams and plans for their kids. Right from their values to how they dress and speak, each aspect has been thoughtfully decided by parents in the best interest of their kids. No one has the right to undo these decisions and rules and put personal preferences first. Parents are supposed to have the final say when it comes to their babies. A dad who goes by u/TinyPixiex revealed that when his mom gave his 6-year-old daughter a haircut without consulting the parents, they had a firm response. Parents are approving and supporting their decision.

The dad noted that his daughter had long and curly hair. The mom enjoyed looking after it and loved the way it was. “Taking care of it is a bonding activity for her and the wife, they do hair masks, try out different braids and Lily loves showing off her princess curls,” the man noted. The grandma offered to babysit her granddaughter while the parents went away for a while. However, when they returned, they were baffled to see their daughter’s luscious curls cut off into a chin-length bob. The grandmother was not even sorry or doubtful of having given her the haircut, but instead felt proud and claimed that she “fixed it.” She went on to say that “it was too unruly and Lily would look more mature this way.”

The parents were agitated and got into a heated argument with the grandma. The dad recalled, “When I asked her why would a 6-year-old need to look more mature, all I got was a blank stare.” The little girl, too, didn’t approve of the haircut and was “devastated” by her grandmother’s impulse. “She kept saying she didn't want to look like a boy and cried for hours. The mom was furious and, on reasoning with her, received a bland response, “It’s hair, it will grow back.” The dad decided to put his foot down and address the grandma crossing boundaries to such an unacceptable extent.

“I told her that she had no right to make that decision and that I no longer trusted her to watch Lily unsupervised,” he said. The dad made it very clear that the elderly woman could no longer babysit the girl without her parents around. The grandma was “livid”  and became dramatic. “She insists she was just trying to help and says I’m being disrespectful by taking her grandparent right away,” the dad added. However, he remained adamant about his decision and his parents were proud that he didn't put his foot downu/Comfortable-Focus123 said, “Your mom should know better. You never cut a child's hair or make a change to their appearance without parental approval.”

u/WhereasParticular857 added, “You are being harsh because the situation calls for being harsh. It was not your mother's call to make.” u/SilverQuilter6901 remarked, “I would straight up go no contact with anyone who violated my child’s rights/autonomy that way. She had to have already planned to do that.” u/xxdarknessqueen noted, “Looks like she needed a lesson on respecting boundaries and not playing hairdresser without consent.”
