Mom overheard little daughters making up after an argument—the chat made her realize 'parenting is worth it'

One of the things to keep in mind about parenting is that kids learn from words and actions. Whatever they see parents doing becomes permissible behavior for them. How they see parents reacting to situations will define how they choose to respond. A mom named Lauren Reed–who goes by @itslaurenreed on TikTok–understood this through a wholesome experience. She has two daughters, Clementine and Masie, and has undoubtedly been imbibing values in them. The mom noticed the fruit of her hard work when she saw Clementine and little Masie making up after an argument. The conversation is sure to make a grownup cry.

The mom explained that little Masie was putting away her toys after playing and felt proud about clearing up on her own. When her older sister, Clementine, came to help her, she was unhappy. “Masie loudly told her that she didn’t want her to do that and both girls got sad,” Reed added in the caption. The video captured the sisters, with Masie frowning and Clementine facing her. However, Clementine, being the older one, decided to help her sister understand. Instead of staying mad at each other, they decided to patch up by communicating. As Masie stood against the wall, still frowning, Clementine calmly said, “It’s fine. You don’t have to change your mind and make me help you.”

She added, “You also have to use a kind tone if you don’t want me to help you.” Confused, little Masie asked, “How do I do that?” Her older sister, ever so gently, explained, “If you feel frustrated and feel like you want to use a loud voice, I’ll tell you what to do. Take a deep breath and say, ‘I don’t need help,’ in a calm voice, okay?” As Clementine spoke to her younger sister, she could see the little girl simultaneously taking a deep breath and repeating her words. However, there was more the older one wanted to teach her sibling. She took the onus of what happened and sweetly confessed, “I didn’t know that you didn’t need help. I’m sorry.”

Masie looked at her affectionately and immediately, love overpowered their temporary sorrow. The little sister touched Clementine’s hands and followed with a comforting hug to make up for their little fight. Seeing her kids practicing understanding and empathy to become kind individuals melted Reed’s heart. She was stoked to see her little girls vouching for each other and reacting thoughtfully. “When you realize parenting is so worth it,” the mom wrote in the video’s overlay text. In her caption, she added, “The way they talked this through on their own, this is absolutely the sweetest.”

A child therapist @msschubbamarie remarked, “Excellent work, mama! I know it won’t be like this every time, but the fact that they have this love and respect shows it all.” @bowbeforeloki added, “This is gentle parenting. Not the misinformation they say it is where parents let their kids get away with everything. It teaches emotional regulation, communication and natural consequences.” @natalehnicole remarked, “The fact that the little one listens and the older one is so happy to apologize. This is miraculous.” @the_unnafflicted wrote, “You won at parenting.”
@itslaurenreed You guys… I know this is a little long, but the way they talked this through 🥹🥹 Backstory- Maisie was putting away her blocks and was feeling proud of herself for doing it on her own, and Clementine came to help her, but Maisie wanted to do it on her own. So Maisie loudly told her she didn’t want her to do that and then both girls got sad. BUT then they talked it through on their own 🥹🥹 These two are the absolute sweetest #sweetmoments #gentleparenting #sweetkids #girlmom #sosweet #myheart ♬ Little Things - Adrián Berenguer
