Mom snapped a photo of her 6-year-old daughter but when she looked again, she was stunned to see her grandma looking back at her
Family photos have a strange way of revealing things we miss in everyday hustle. It sits quietly in drawers and on phone galleries until one image, often very old, suddenly takes us back to the old times. That’s what happened to Krina when she opened a photo album.
Two years ago, she was looking for old pictures of her grandmother, Judy, who passed away in February 2025, per Newsweek. A photograph in the album made her stop.
A photograph of Judy as a young girl, roughly the same age as Krina’s daughter, Kailah. The resemblance between the two was startling. "I was shocked and couldn’t believe how much my daughter looked like my grandmother," the 31-year-old told Newsweek. Krina decided to share the comparison on TikTok (@krinafaye). She began with a photo of Kailah accompanied by the caption, "My daughter literally has my grandma’s whole face." Next came the image of Judy at Kailah’s age, "My grandma at my daughter’s age." The final slide placed the portraits side by side and suddenly the likeness spoke for itself.
"I assumed family members would resemble each other because of genetics, but my daughter literally has my grandmother’s whole face even the same teeth," she said. Before the post made it onto TikTok, she had shared it with relatives and close friends on Facebook. Their reactions mirrored her own. “Shocked!” she said, laughing at how no one in the family had noticed this earlier.
Once the post went public, it reached a lot of people and they also started sharing their own comparison pictures in the thread. It has now gathered over 1.2 M views and 3.9K+ comments. It has drawn people into a conversation about the surprising ways genetics works when it comes to facial appearances.
Some comments leaned into humor or wonder. @francescamanyani wrote, "Reincarnation is real." Others shared more personal stories. @lookoutitssam said, "My daughter stole my dad's face and it kills me because I always hated my face growing up because I looked like my dad and I hated 'looking like a boy' but now SHE is his clone and she's beautiful... I lost my dad in 2023." @deej1980 reflected, "I just love how genetics work, it's so beautiful!
For Krina, this was the first time anything she posted had reached such a wide audience. “People see the same resemblance that I see,” she said. What she didn’t expect was for strangers to share their own family lookalikes, filling her comment section with old pictures and stories of loved ones. But keeping aside the virality of Krina’s post, the moment carried its own tenderness. Kailah spent six years with her great-grandmother, six years of memories, hugs and time that now feels even more meaningful in light of that photograph.
