Emi is a 3-year-old kid living in Rusk, Texas. She was alone with her mother, Aidan Wilkie, when the latter suffered a grand mal seizure at their home. Instead of panicking during this medical emergency, Emi quickly FaceTimed her grandparents to seek help. Her family had taught her to reach out to someone in such situations, so she contacted her grandparents, who lived 700 miles away in Georgia, and they helped her contact 911. They stayed on the call with Emi and informed 911 that Emi was struggling to open the door for the responders to come in and was standing on the chair.
Before the paramedics could reach their home, the little girl stayed by her mother’s side, doing everything she could to comfort her. Aidan, who could barely recall moments from the seizure, later shared, "The only thing I do remember from everything was the fact that she was rubbing my hair. I could hear briefly, ‘Mommy, it’s going to be okay.'"
While Aidan was unconscious, Emi worked hard to unlock the door for the paramedics. Her grandfather informed 911 about this, and the dispatcher praised Emi for her efforts. She successfully unlocked the door. After EMT Tim Spurgeon and the other first responders arrived, they searched for the 3-year-old who had been helping her mother. Emi then guided the responders to her mother.

UT Health East Texas noticed her courageous act and honored her with a certificate, a teddy bear, and a stethoscope. Her mother also called her daughter "hero." On the call with 911, Emi was heard asking, "I helped mommy?" after which her family reassured her that she did save her mom's life.
A person's age does not define their capacity to act bravely in a difficult moment. In a similar situation, a 3-year-old boy was accompanying his mother outside his great-grandmother's house but suddenly shouted, "Help, help." He quickly ran toward the neighbor's garage, and his mother, who was unsure why her son yelled "help," followed him. When she reached the neighbor's yard, she found a woman collapsed on the ground and bleeding. Kelsea Sprouse, the mother, immediately called 911 and saved the woman's life.
