Mom surprised everyone by helping her ex-husband propose—her reason left even their kids in awe

The end of a relationship might not be easy for people, but many times they get a chance to move on in a healthy way. One mom had moved on from her ex-husband and developed a healthy friendship as she co-parented her kids with him. However, when she decided to help him propose to his current girlfriend, she left the internet in awe with her growth and attitude. The woman, Heather Jae, who goes by @realheatherjae on TikTok, shared the proposal on the platform. The clip received over 462,500 views and loads of appreciation from people online.

"Come with me to shoot my baby's dad's proposal to his girlfriend," Heather began. The woman worked as a photographer and she had lost all of her business accounts and had asked the couple to model for her. "So they think they are just modelling for me. Well, it is a planned proposal. He planned it with me and she has no idea. So let's go." Heather took her camera for the photographs and videos, while the couple stood ready to "model" for her. The man, Derek Silver, was wearing a suit while the girlfriend wore a beautiful red dress. They turned away from each other for a pose. While the woman, Kaylin Drumeller, was still turned away, Derek got on his knee and took out the ring. When Kaylin finally turned around, she was stunned to see what was actually happening.
Kaylin laughed as she extended her hand, so the man could put a ring on her finger. She stomped her feet because of all the excitement. The proposal turned out to be successful and the couple was engaged and celebrating with Heather and her wife, Meg. Derek told TODAY.com that Heather was not just his ex-wife, but also like a "sister." He added, "This is the relationship and family dynamic that we created. We’re surrounded by a lot of love." Heather went on, "It was important for me to be part of this moment because it showed how far we’ve come as co-parents." She felt it was an important moment for their two kids as well. "Being there meant supporting something joyful in Derek’s life and showing our children that love and respect can still exist after divorce."
"You never want your kids to feel like they have to choose which parent they like more or which parent they want to be with. Our kids never have to think that way," Derek remarked. "It did not start out this way; it was very messy. We were on a really bad path. I remember telling Heather, 'We’re family for life — no matter what, we’re in each other’s lives, so we need to find a common ground.'" Meg also played an important role in making the event a success, as she shot the TikTok video and carried the couple's baby in a carrier. People applauded Heather's gesture in the comments section of the video.
