Mom walked into Sephora expecting a routine shopping trip — the first thing the worker said about her face left her regretting the visit
Many of us are still in the process of learning to love our bodies and skin as they are. Therefore, even a seemingly simple remark can hurt someone's feelings. A TikTok user and mom named Abby was livid after a Sephora worker asked an unexpected question following her greeting at the store. Sharing her experience under her handle @abbythebada**mom on August 1, 2026, she revealed how the conversation left her speechless. The incident was later reported by The Mary Sue on August 6, 2026, highlighting why Abby felt the approach was seriously wrong.
As soon as the woman walked in, she was greeted by a worker as usual. She immediately asked, “Your under-eyes need a lot of help. Can I show you something for that?” The customer was taken aback by her remark. For a bit, she was speechless, but went on to tell the employee, “No, thank you. I know what’s underneath my eyes.” Instead of realizing that her comment came off as offensive, she added, “Can I show you some moisturizer then?” Abby was trying hard to maintain her composure and not go off on the worker. Recounting the scenario, she admitted that in that moment she was not interested in "anything that's going to come out of your mouth.”
The mom noted that it was not okay for her to comment on someone’s looks like that. She explained that every person is aware of their flaws and different skin textures and doesn’t need to be reminded of them. Instead of trying to help her by targeting her undereyes, she could have simply asked if she was looking for something or needed assistance in finding a product. “Think twice before you walk up to someone and call out what you think doesn’t look good on their face,” she remarked.
Commenters were equally disappointed in the service. @cha.cha31 recalled a horrifying experience, saying, “One of the brand representatives in Sephora told my daughter she would need Botox; she was 11 at the time.” @emery.95 remarked, “That is insane, you should have called her out.” @sassykelly added, “Extremely rude and unprofessional.” Women are objectified too often, and when they don’t look perfect, they’re mocked for having flaws, as every other human being does.
The worst part is, sometimes, it’s not just strangers; it’s also family and friends who are supposed to be accepting and supportive. In another instance, a woman was already self-conscious about a scar she had on her neck, and her fiancé kept making it worse. Through direct and indirect actions, he kept making her feel insecure about it.
There were instances where he made remarks like she “looked like a kid messed up such a great art (referring to my look),” or “I’m marrying you minus the scar.” When she tried to take a stand for herself, she was told that she was the one who had a problem with the mark and should get therapy for it. However, her friends assured her that her partner was in the wrong and that she should not have to feel so insecure because of something so minor.
