Mom was devastated when her teen son was pronounced dead after car crash until a miracle changed everything
One of the most important requirements for a miracle is to have belief. And it’s hardest to hold onto that belief exactly when you need the miracle the most. A mother named La’Kisha shared the life-altering story of her 15-year-old son, Torianto “Junior” Brinson, which changed his life forever, according to FOX 2 KTVU. The boy was thrown out of a car after the vehicle he was in met with a terrible accident. He was unresponsive at the site itself and despite medics giving it their all to revive him, nothing worked. In that moment, the mom held on to belief with every shuddering breath and it led to a miracle that changed her life.
Recalling the harrowing day, La’Kisha mentioned how she learned of her son’s accident. “A minute after it happened, my daughter called me,” she said. La’Kisha was only told that she needed to “come here now.” Since the duo was around the corner, she hurried over to see a sight no mom should ever have to witness. “Had to get out of the car, run and saw him lying there. Four emergency services were working on him,” she explained. The teenager had no response. He wasn’t breathing or moving and every second was confirming an unimaginable fear. When the medics couldn’t find a response, they had to take Torianto via Life Flight to the Texas Medical Center.
There, too, doctors were trying their best but in vain. La’Kisha heard news that left her frozen. "They told us that he was gone, there was nothing they could do,” she recounted. However, the mom refused to give up. “I remember asking them, 'You're just going to let my baby just sit here?'” The doctors tried to comfort the mom, assuring her they’d done everything they could. That’s when she turned to prayer. She asked her family to pray and went to her 15-year-old to pray over him. Her belief and love as a mother resulted in victory a minute later. "I was holding his hand and I prayed and told him, ‘Junior, I need you!’” and that’s when she saw his hand move.
It instantly meant hope resurfaced and the boy was back in emergency care. He had a pulse but was in a semi-coma at Memorial Hermann. Throughout, the mom clung to every bit of positivity she received, knowing her boy would be back with her. This resilience paid off and Torianto was getting better. “He was still having trouble moving around in bed consistently. Getting up and walking was very difficult. It required two people to help him," physical therapist Dr. Liz Larkin from TIRR Memorial Hermann noted. The teenager had struggles of his own. He had to relearn a lot, but his family and the staff at TIRR Memorial Hermann stuck with him throughout.
La’Kisha took up the duties of teaching her son to brush, walk, eat, and so on. His physical therapist ensured nothing hindered his recovery. Eventually, the boy’s progress improved. He was soon able to move around, and after a while, he was back to playing basketball again. His mom was the happiest. She took a life-ending verdict and held it in hope until it transformed into something life-giving. “I refused to believe that God was going to take his future. We've even had people tell us he wasn't going to walk or talk, but we believed," she remarked. The 15-year-old eventually took up courses and rehab and was fine soon. He is now working on his dream to become an NBA player, all possible because a miracle made its way through.
