Nanny ignored mom’s feeding instructions and bottle-fed anyway — her method left the baby choking and got her fired

Feeling that the nanny had downplayed the risk and misrepresented the situation, the mom immediately decided to let her go.

From monitoring what they eat to making sure they are always secure, moms are rightly extra cautious with their babies. A mom recently shared her experience on March 19, 2026, on TikTok under the handle @j_weazy, explaining that she feared firing her nanny over a bottle-feeding incident might have been too harsh. While she was occupied upstairs on a work call, she had left clear instructions for the nanny, expecting everything to go smoothly. What happened instead left her shocked and worried for her child’s safety. The post quickly drew attention, and moms everywhere voiced their support.

The incident involved the baby’s feeding while the mother was on her work call. She had instructed the nanny to use a bottle with a common nipple-style top that allowed her 6-month-old to drink milk by biting it. As the mother came down after her call, she noticed the nanny in a rush. As she was about to leave, she told the mother that the baby had been having trouble drinking from the bottle top and that she had given the milk directly from the bottle instead. However, the shocking part came when the creator's mother, who later came down and saw the baby choking, immediately raised the alarm. The mother then informed the influencer about the incident.

Worried, she immediately texted the nanny for further clarification on the choking incident. After discovering that her baby had nearly choked because the nanny had ignored her simple instructions for using the bottle top, the mother decided to fire her. She noted that other bottles were available for use, or the nanny could have simply waited or contacted her if having trouble with the feeding. Feeling that the nanny had downplayed the risk and misrepresented the situation, she immediately decided to let her go, commenting, “Don’t come back tomorrow.”

Later, she reflected on whether she had been too harsh but recognized that the baby’s safety had to come first. Many internet users and mothers also supported her strict decision in the comment section. @amandavalentine22 wrote, "As a former nanny, this wouldn’t even cross my mind as a way to feed a baby. You are not overreacting [sic] at all!" @sefharas remarked, "Even if you corrected this specific situation, you’ve learned something critical about her judgment that you shouldn’t overlook." @jennanny80 mentioned, "She could have easily sent you a quick text, explained the situation, and asked what you wanted her to do."

While some mothers unfortunately face situations like the one above, in other cases, nannies go above and beyond to provide care and support. In another incident, a nanny, Alyson Myatt, risked her own life to save 5-year-old Aden Hawes from a house fire. Flames blocked the boy’s room, but Myatt ran barefoot across the burning carpet to rescue him. She quickly got him to safety at a neighbor’s house, ignoring her own pain. Aden’s father later said, “To realize what she did, saved my son’s life, you can’t thank someone for that. There’s nothing you can do to repay them for taking that kind of a risk.”
