Neighbor called cops on 'homeless man with a stolen baby'—his ID uncovered a truth the neighbor never imagined

Some misunderstandings can be inconvenient and hilarious at the same time. A man who was walking around the neighborhood with his newborn daughter experienced something similar. The dad explained that a neighbor saw him walking around with his baby in a baby carrier and thought he was a homeless person. She felt that the man had "stolen" the baby and ended up calling the police. However, the neighbor was surprised when she learned about the man's true identity. The parents, Hannah and Chapman Hamborg, shared the incident on Instagram, where they go by @thehamborgs. The clip received over 66.5 million views.

The text overlay of the video read, "POV: Your neighbor calls the cops, reporting you as a homeless man with a stolen baby." The man, Chapman, came home and told his wife about what had happened. "So the cops need to see my ID." Hannah was in disbelief over the incident. "No, they didn't." He added, "So she followed me home when I was walking the baby. This is what I look like wearing my Patagonia jacket." The cops were actually waiting outside the man's house to see his ID. "You are going to get trouble for this for the rest of your lives," the cop joked. "This is just hilarious," Chapman went on. The police explained that the lady lived a street over and got worried after seeing the man.
"She followed you and saw you walk in here," the cop went on. "I take our newborn daughter for walks around our neighborhood while wearing her in the baby carrier multiple times a day. I am surprised all of my neighbors haven’t seen me and recognize me by now," the caption read. "Well, this lady thought I was homeless and had a 'stolen' baby and she was concerned enough to call the police and get in her car and follow me home. Apparently, I need to work on my appearance — I guess being an artist or a tired dad isn’t a valid excuse." People shared their thoughts on the incident in the comments section of the video.
@tetristactical wrote, "The need to see your ID? How would that change you being homeless and stealing a baby? Lol, they infringed on your rights, my guy." @azdianamarie commented, "My son (adult) was walking my dog once and a car stopped and gave my son the rest of his lunch, said he could eat it or give it to the dog... nobody ever feeds me when I'm walking." @thiagowrs remarked, "I wouldn't say homeless, was leaning more towards a hippie vegan person. Definitely common nowadays, would be even more 'normal' if it were a cat instead of a baby, considering in the US."

In another video, the man asked his boys if he looked like a homeless person and funnily enough, the kids agreed. "They were like, well, you actually do look like one." The dad joked, "I guess someone needs some beauty sleep or a spa or something." The man addressed the comments about looking like a homeless person from the previous video in the caption. "Some comments are a little mean, being like, 'Have some self-respect, how are you walking out in public like that?' To which my response is: When my baby is crying, I am focused on comforting her and not what I look like."
