She was curious to know what activity had been arranged for the aged residents. The details caught her off guard.

It’s uncommon to see older adults take part in thrill-seeking experiences. That is why one woman was surprised when she received an unexpected email from her 91-year-old father's facility. As reported by Newsweek, she shared the message on February 16, 2026, explaining that her dad lives in assisted living and has a broken back. She later posted the screenshot on Threads under the handle @mommyk8r8r. The email described a planned outing that seemed far more daring than she ever imagined for someone his age and condition.

The message informed families that residents would be heading to indoor skydiving on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and that each person could bring one family member along to fly. It also mentioned that a community bus would provide transportation and that residents had already received a flyer. Those interested were asked to sign up at the front desk. Sharing the screenshot, she wrote, “I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. Is this real? Am I missing something?” She added that her father is 91 and uses a walker, which made the invitation even more surprising.

She admitted later in a post that the idea itself sounded exciting. “Honestly, folks, it sounds fun as heck,” she wrote. However, she pointed out that this was not an independent living center. “Were it just the independent living senior facility, I wouldn’t have been so quick to question it, but these are people in assisted living. I still have questions.” Her main concern was how residents with serious health limitations would safely take part in such an activity, even if it was indoors and supervised.

Soon after her post gained attention, she shared an update. “Okay, I talked to the front desk, and it’s real,” she wrote. Staff explained that the skydiving trip was meant to kick off “Dare Week,” a themed event designed to encourage residents to step outside their comfort zones. She said the receptionists laughed with her and admitted that some staff members were also shocked when they first heard about the plan. The unusual choice had clearly surprised more than just one family.

In the end, her retired physician father, with a bad back, decided not to join the adventure. She shared that he was simply not interested. While the idea was bold, it also raised questions about physical limits and safety. Many internet users also left their opinions in the comment section. @becca_masters wrote, "Do they have a waiting list or people to move in? Because this type of activity might end some of the older folks. Holy hell."

@livsintroubledtimes mentioned, "My super introverted, quiet mom would absolutely do this! She climbed the 60-plus-foot tree in their yard for her 70th birthday just to prove she could. She also went paragliding when she was younger." While @meloeywilson remarked, "My very healthy husband hurt himself at 35. This is concerning." @fionaandgeorgie exclaimed, "It'll be fine! They put them in a little flight suit. Let a guy live a little."
