Parents were hanging Christmas lights with adopted son for the first time — what he said next left them crying with happiness
The little things that people don't pay much attention to might mean the world to someone. Two moms realized that while hanging Christmas lights with their adopted son. The women had recently adopted their son and were enjoying the quiet moment of hanging Christmas lights with him. At one point, he expressed how much he loved hanging the lights and said something that made his parents pause for a moment. One mom, Kayla Stewart, who goes by @ilivetodowhatilove on Instagram, shared the moment with the platform. The video received over 32.9 million views.
The boy handed his mom something while she was hanging the lights. She thanked him as he said an excited, "You're welcome!" He took a moment and everyone was busy doing their own thing before the boy continued talking. "I love doing this. This is the best life!" The women looked at him for a moment, but didn't react too much, so the boy could express himself freely. "When your adopted son hits you when you least expect it," the text overlay of the video read. "My wife and I are trying to act normal and not make it a big deal, so he feels safe to keep opening up." Both Kayla and her wife, Samantha, had a smile on their faces as they went back to the task at hand.
Kayla expressed that the couple's hearts "exploded" after listening to what their son had to say. "'Stay calm, stay cool,' we screamed through glowing eyes at each other." The couple had been together for 16 years and understood each other really well. They also hoped that their son would keep opening up and expressing himself. "But adopting and watching your son grow into his authentic self and find that safety and comfort to freely express his emotions is just out of this world!" The mom didn't know if she should laugh or cry after hearing that and just quietly looked at Samantha with a smile and a heart full of awe.
"He tells us all the time how he feels about us and us adopting him. He is very connected to spirit and has said many times that he waited for us since birth and it took us forever," the caption went on. "He just continues to blow our minds with such random moments of expression and love." Kayla and Samantha told Newsweek that they had recently adopted their four-year-old son Jayden after being in his life since 2022. They met Jayden while he was admitted to a hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest caused by malnutrition. The boy is sensitive to sounds and really appreciates calm moments.
People appreciated the sweet moment in the comments section of the video. @clatke wrote, "I know everyone in that house went to bed that night knowing how lucky they are." @morganjohnson1 commented, "Well, here I am crying. Great job, you all are doing amazing! That little boy feels safe and loved and that's the most important thing." @brown_bag_crew remarked, "I was adopted, but I was a baby, so I didn't know any different, but now I can look back and see how lucky I was for the family that I got. My mom said I never grew in her tummy, but I grew in her heart. I wouldn't trade that for the world."
