Woman was 'mortified' after accidentally saying 'love you' to important client on call — then she received an unexpected email

Any working professional knows that communicating with clients is everything. The tone, words and clarity used set the potential for prospects. This is why employees are exceptionally careful about how they speak. A woman who goes by u/ButterscotchButtons revealed that she was having a conversation with an important client at work. However, before signing off, she accidentally said, “Love you,” to the client. Worried about how this might seem, she was stunned to receive a wholesome and reassuring email in response to her hilarious mishap.

No one can deny that effective communication is the key to building successful relationships with clients. Data from Pumble revealed that 64% of business leaders and 55% of knowledge workers believe good communication between professionals can yield productive results. If you’re an employee dealing with client communication, think about how to sign off. You may have used “Have a good day,” “It’s been a pleasure,” and many other formal statements to end conversations with a client positively. However, the woman revealed that she accidentally said, “‘Love you!’ at the end of a call with an important client yesterday.”

She recalled that she “heard him giggle” while hanging up and “was mortified.” In a comment, she revealed, “I do work from home and the last person I talked to right before him was my husband. It had also been a long day,” suggesting the possible reason for the blunder. Unsure what to expect of the situation, she was astonished to receive the sweetest reply. Titled “Love You!” quoting the woman’s words, the email was a “bold” one, per a comment from the woman. However, she laughed it off after reading the rest of the contents. The man replied to the email by first apologizing for laughing abruptly after the woman’s mishap. He noted that he didn’t mean to laugh.
“I just found it funny because I’ve done it before and I know it happens,” he assured. His next statement was a heartwarming reminder for the woman. He said, “I’m glad that you have enough love in your life that the response comes naturally. If anything, be proud of that.” He also communicated the follow-up of their work casually, ending the mishap on a light-hearted note. In another comment, the woman expressed her gratitude for the heartfelt observation and reminder. “It really warmed my heart and honestly made me realize how lucky I am that I get to say those words to so many people and hear them back,” she wrote.

Many people shared how it has been a wholesome error on their end, too. u/RanaEire said, “That was a nice email... Loved it… It looks like you're working with a nice person!” u/Siltyclaywithsand added, “I accidentally texted the head plant engineer, ‘I love you’ instead of my soon-to-be wife. He responded, ‘I've really liked working with you, but it has only been a week and I think it is too early in the relationship for that.’ F**king gold. I went from embarrassed to laughing my ass off.” u/GrumpyGG24 remarked, “That’s cool, proves we’re all human.”
