Passenger kept tugging at flight attendant's jacket during a medical emergency — she mistook him for a doctor until he made his demand
A medical emergency during a flight can leave cabin crew with little time to respond, especially when a passenger needs urgent attention. However, not everyone on board understands the seriousness of such moments. Instagram user Zoë Louise, who worked as a cabin crew member for Emirates, shared an experience in which a passenger kept yanking her jacket while she was helping someone who had collapsed. She posted the story on Instagram under the handle @iamzoelouise on October 14, 2026, recalling how the incident tested her patience and showed her the importance of standing up for herself at work.

The incident happened near the end of the flight service when a passenger collapsed in the galley area and began having a seizure. Louise immediately called for help and got down on the floor to protect him from getting hurt. While she was focused on the emergency, another passenger began tugging at her waistcoat. At first, she thought he might be a doctor offering assistance, but he was actually asking for tea. Louise turned around and firmly told him, "Are you blind? Sit down." She was shocked that someone could put their request ahead of a passenger who needed urgent medical attention. Her response reflected how seriously she took her responsibility to care for those on board.
Louise explained that before becoming a flight attendant, she was comfortable meeting people and making friends but struggled with confrontation. Working for an airline taught her to speak firmly when safety was involved, whether asking passengers to follow instructions or preparing the cabin for takeoff. She said she had previously tolerated rude behavior because she wanted to avoid arguments. However, the job helped her understand that being polite did not mean accepting every demand. Learning to set boundaries can help people protect themselves and others, particularly in situations where safety must come first.

Looking back, the content creator saw the incident as one example of how her work had changed her confidence. She had learned that she could speak up when someone crossed a line, even if confrontation once felt difficult. She explained that she had not lacked the ability to stand up for herself but had become used to putting up with poor behavior. The experience helped her recognize the difference between being patient and allowing others to take advantage of her.

Louise's story also highlighted the pressure cabin crew face when managing emergencies while dealing with demanding passengers. Another incident involved a passenger who made an unnecessary request during turbulence. The seat belt sign came on, and the captain announced that service would pause until conditions improved. Despite the warning, the passenger pressed the call button twice.
As the flight attendant carefully moved through the shaking cabin, he discovered that the passenger simply wanted their trash removed. Reacting to the incident, the witness said, "Please don't be this person on an airplane, I beg you," urging passengers to respect safety instructions. The woman could not believe someone would be willing to endanger someone else's safety with such an absurd request.
