Passengers thought their 2-hour airport delay was finally over — then one child’s chilling warning held the flight up another 25 minutes
Travel delays can test anyone's patience, especially when travelers have already spent hours waiting at the airport. That frustration grew during one flight after passengers had already endured a long delay caused by bad weather and staffing issues. Once everyone finally boarded and settled into their seats, they were relieved that the wait was finally over. However, their relief did not last long, as the journey was pushed back another 25 minutes because of one child. The incident was later shared on Monday, August 31, 2026, by a Reddit user, under the username u/thesaraanne.
The flight had already been held up for around two hours because of weather and a shortage of TSA staff. After boarding was complete, the captain asked the crew to carry out a final cabin check. Then passengers were informed of another 25-minute delay. At first, there was no clear explanation, but later it turned out that a child had been repeatedly saying, “Get me off this plane; I have a feeling something bad is going to happen on this plane.” No one could understand earlier why the travelers suddenly wanted to get off the aircraft after the pilot announced, "We have some people who really don't want to fly today," until the reason was revealed.
The child continued for approximately 10 minutes, after which the staff had to make the final decision to allow the family to get off. The youngster may have become frightened by the bad weather or expected turbulence, although the exact reason was not confirmed. It was initially assumed there was some medical emergency or disruptive behavior, but the case turned out to be totally unexpected. A passenger's comfort and safety are top priorities while traveling. Due to this, no matter how small or absurd the reason may be, the cabin crew will not take off until the matter is resolved. In another similar incident, passengers were already on board when staff members noticed a minor having trouble staying in their seat.
The child kept getting out of the seat and trying to hide underneath it while the parent and crew attempted to help. One passenger recalled, "They just kept hiding under their seat." Since the kid could not remain safely buckled, the staff decided the aircraft could not leave yet. What seemed like a small issue soon affected everyone on board. The family was asked to deplane, but the process took long enough to create another problem. The airport runway was due to close for the night. As a result, the trip was canceled, and travelers had to make new plans until the flight left the next afternoon. One flyer said the kid did not seem badly behaved and was likely frightened by the unfamiliar setting.
