When it comes to naming a child, parents take their own time and mindfully pick a name. They are exposed to different sources and suggestions but always pick what they find best. A name is something that represents a person and will be with them for life and it’s natural for parents to go back and forth and be careful while choosing it. A mom-to-be who goes by u/SitckAndProud revealed that her mother-in-law was not too glad when she and her husband decided to change the name of their baby. The mother-in-law had already gotten a tattoo of the name and insisted on sticking to the same one because she couldn’t get rid of the tattoo. The mom, however, had a bold response to render.

The woman revealed that she was expecting her first child with her husband. They knew it was a boy and had been shortlisting baby names. “We had a name we liked but never told anyone it was final,” the woman noted. She went on to mention that her mother-in-law made the impulsive decision to get a tattoo on her wrist. She noted that she “has always been a bit much” and got the tattoo done without discussing it with the parents-to-be. Furthermore, she clearly mentioned that the name hadn’t been finalized yet and the mother-in-law still went out of her way to get it tattooed.

“We were shocked but still unsure about the name,” the woman noted. After a month, the parents-to-be decided that they didn’t want to keep the previously shortlisted name. “We decided to go with something else,” the post read. However, the mother-in-law was furious and “lost it.” “She said that we ‘disrespected’ her and now she’s demanding we change it back,” she remarked. Even her husband urged her to retain the previous name so they could “keep the peace” between the family. The pregnant woman was adamant about putting her child’s life and interests before an impulsive tattoo. She refused to change her name back to the older one.

She stuck to her decision and it enraged the mother-in-law. The internet was in complete support of the woman. They pointed out that the couple, not having finalized it, had every right to change the name. Moreover, it was more important that the baby get a name that was apt as it is a big decision for parents. u/1CattyWampus1 said, “Until the kid is here, the name is always hypothetical. Hell, I've read articles where people changed their baby's name months after birth because it didn't fit them. She's silly for jumping the gun.”

u/Zealousideal_Call183 said, “Can you use it as a middle name? Otherwise too bad for the mother-in-law, she should have waited!” u/HallAccomplished_5000 added, “Tell her to get laser removal and get over herself.” u/gringaellie remarked, “We changed our second child's name 24 hours after he was born as my husband didn't feel like it suited. A child's name isn't permanent until you register the birth.” u/FriendlyMum noted, “You’re not responsible for her actions. She’s the one who’s making this all about her and not about your moment.”
