Sad DoorDash driver steps away from house thinking customer yelled at him—then a knock on his door sets things right

Having food delivered to your door is a blessing in disguise in today's time. In return, these delivery drivers deserve at least a thank you. Unfortunately, when a man named Mark Polchelb (@markp_) ordered on Doordash, his deliveryman had an unexpected and saddening experience, per TODAY. The man was shouting at his dog when the delivery man, Sami, arrived at the door. Through some miscommunication, Sami thought Polchelb was yelling at him and simply delivered the package and left. However, soon, this bitter encounter turned into one of the most random yet wholesome journeys.  

Polchelb shared a video of his very first encounter with Sami when he arrived at his doorstep with his parcel. With the commotion of the dog barking, the man started yelling at his dog and said, “Back off the door, mate!” As soon as Sami heard the remark, he sadly stepped away from the door. The delivery man quietly placed the package on the door and was scared to take another step ahead. He didn't understand what just happened and very dejectedly did his job and left. The customer opened the door to take his package but Sami had already made his way out. It was only when he saw the footage that he realized the heartbreaking blunder.

“Can someone please tell the man I was yelling at my dog and not him?” Polchelb remarked sadly. “It was too late to explain. I couldn’t bear the thought of someone thinking I disrespected them for just doing their job!” he said. In a follow-up video, the man expressed how shattered he was about the misunderstanding. He mentioned that he “lost sleep” thinking about the occurrence. He added that he wanted to rectify the situation and got in touch with DoorDash to figure out who the man was. The company could only clarify the issue but Polchelb didn’t get a chance to speak to or tip Sami. He then decided to use TikTok to find the man.

“Sami, if you happen to see this, through family, son, brother, sister, I want to say I’m sorry,” he said. “I can’t tip you through the app but if you can contact me, I’d love to tip you,” he added. “It turns out, with the amazing thing that is TikTok, it took only two days to track him down,” Polchelb remarked. Sami’s daughter came across the customer’s plea and shared it with her dad. In a follow-up video, he revealed that even the company’s heart reached Sami and Polchelb’s bittersweet newfound bond. “The team at DoorDash reached out to me and said that they’d be making Sami a top Dasher for life by topping up his pay,” the man exclaimed. “It makes my heart happier,” he added.

Finally, the duo connected and decided to meet and the customer was able to apologize. He drove to Sami’s, met his family, tipped and apologized and cleared all the misunderstandings. An update captures the due sharing of an empathetic embrace in relief. Thanks to this publicity, Sami is now a well-protected and cherished DoorDasher loved all over the internet. His daughter even set up a GoFundMe so he could visit his son in France. “I came to Australia 8 years ago as a refugee and I haven’t seen my son for 10 years,” the description read. Thanks to Polcheib and Sami’s wholesome story, people know the delivery man and supportively donated over 8,000 Australian dollars (over 5,000 USD) to make this dream a reality.
