Seth Rogen's 5-word response to 20-year-old man using a 'McLovin' ID to get into bar

Imitating iconic scenes from movies is quite common among kids and teens. But it landed a 20-year-old from Iowa in trouble as the young man was arrested for drinking at a bar using a fake 'McLovin' ID. Yes, the same fake Hawaii ID that was seen in the 2007 teen comedy "Superbad," starring Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Michael Cera, Emma Stone and Bill Hader, among others. Daniel Alfredo Burleson from Des Moines faced several charges related to underage drinking and for the possession of a fake ID, according to Johnson County Jail Records, as reported by Iowa City Press-Citizen. The incident went viral and even prompted an epic response from Rogen, who portrayed Officer Michaels, an immature police officer in the film.

In the movie "Superbad," Christopher Mintz-Plasse's character Fogell manages to buy alcohol with a fake "Hawaii McLovin" ID. This scene inspired the creation and sale of numerous fake 'McLovin' IDs, some of which are available on Amazon. The ID that was in Burleson's possession also had the name and date of birth (DOB) of McLovin, and it had been purchased from the same e-commerce platform. Burleson was caught in the act when a police officer at Airliner Bar, located at 22 S. Clinton St. spotted him with a drink in his hand after midnight. Burleson allegedly admitted to drinking a beverage with vodka but refused to show his ID. The police eventually took him outside the bar, where he produced his real ID that showed he was under the legal drinking age, i.e., 21.

When the police asked for the fake ID, the man refused to admit that he had one, until he "pulled out his wallet and began shuffling through the wallet and police could see [his] fake Hawaii ID with the name 'McLovin DOB 06/03/1981," as per the report. After much interrogation, Burleson allegedly confessed to purchasing the ID from Amazon. His story got major limelight on the internet and when Seth Rogen came across it, he had a very Officer Michaels response. "My work is done here," he wrote in a post on X, while resharing a news article about Burleson's arrest. 

Rogen's post literally blew up on social media and prompted many to come forward and share similar instances. @nancycallaghan wrote, "Same thing happened to my husband at the Vegas airport! Luckily, the security guy had seen 'Superbad'! This guy called all these airport security workers over to look at the Mclovin' fake ID! They were cracking up! Could have gone south real fast!" 

@PokeDocR remarked, "This movie made my high school life way easier and taught me that it is cool to be myself...Thank you so much for it...For me, it is a piece of art and I'll make sure my kids would watch it someday."

Rogen, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, talked about the idea behind using a 'McLovin' ID in "Superbad." He co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Goldberg and also served as a producer on the film. "We just thought what is the dumbest thing a guy could possibly put on his fake ID and somehow, we landed on McLovin," he shared. The actor had also revealed in the interview that some of the scenes in the films were loosely based on his real-life high school experiences.
