She asked a mom to stop her daughter from kicking her seat — but the flight attendant's intervention made the passenger turn defensive instead
Even if you’re patient and accommodating while flying, there is a limit to how much you can tolerate. A Threads user named Aubrey Rose, who goes by @aubreyrose680, shared a post on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, revealing how she had had enough of a mother-daughter duo on a flight. The little girl kept kicking her seat, and while Rose tried to understand that the child might be uneasy and gave her the benefit of the doubt, the behavior continued. After asking the mom to intervene didn’t work, the passenger called the flight attendant, only for the parent to get defensive and agitated.
Rose was hoping to have a quiet flight, but unfortunately, a little girl seated behind her kept kicking her seat. “I decided not to say anything at first because I know flying can be stressful for children,” she acknowledged. However, the girl continued relentlessly disturbing her. At one point, she requested that the mom do something about it. However, the parent simply said that the girl was “just a child” and was “anxious.” After repeated requests for the woman to do something went in vain, the passenger called a flight attendant. “The mother immediately became defensive and acted as though I had insulted her daughter just by asking for help,” she wrote.
The mom made Rose look like the bad guy. In reality, however, she was far from insensitive. At first, she empathized with the idea that the child might not be comfortable being in an enclosed space. Yet the fact that the mom didn’t correct her even once or apologize for the behavior made things worse. Rose recalled feeling helpless and eventually called a staff member. “Empathy should not mean everyone around them has to endure hours of disruption while the parent refuses to intervene,” she noted. She added that if the kid was having a difficult time, there was no harm in setting some boundaries and handling the situation differently. The mom simply chose to ignore her behavior.
Sometimes, it is not the issue that causes the most frustration but rather a person’s sense of entitlement and lack of accountability. These two factors create bitter experiences for many flyers. In another instance, a TikToker named Paul Lee revealed that he experienced the “worst flight” of his life when a toddler sitting beside him wouldn’t stop throwing tantrums. The kid kept kicking him and crying throughout the journey.
While he chose not to confront the mom and quietly endured the disturbance, what shocked many was the parent’s response. After making half-hearted attempts to soothe her child, she awkwardly laughed at him and continued to tolerate the behavior. Again, there was no apology or effort to reduce the inconvenience. While traveling with a child is challenging, parents need to ensure they do their best to avoid causing unnecessary disruptions to other passengers. Everyone is entitled to a peaceful and comfortable trip.
