She placed her son for adoption at 17 — 50 years later, discovers a patron at her bakery is actually her son
There’s something funny about destiny that is unfathomable to humans. The way things work for our best is often inexplicable and can only be understood and cherished once fulfilled. Then 17-year-old Lenore Lindsey made the painstaking decision to give up her newborn for adoption, per ABC7 Chicago. However, fate had planned something else and the mom who thought she’d never see her son again was surprised. One customer on one particular day at the bakery surprised her with the identity of her long-lost son whom she had no traces of. Lindsey gave birth to Vamarr Hunter when she was just 17. It was only decades later that Hunter, at the age of 35 realized he was adopted.
From thereon began his quest to meet his biological mother. Hunter took genetic testing and discovered that his birth mother resided in the same neighborhood as him. What’s more, she owned the 'Give Me Some Sugah' Bakery on the South Shore. Hunter had been a local patron and had been meeting his biological mom for years without even realizing it. At the age of 50, the man finally met his mother, with complete knowledge that she was more than just the owner of the bakery. Both mother and son believed it was God who got them reunited after all this time.
"It's been a great experience. It further strengthens my faith,” Hunter exclaimed. "When I called him, that connection was so immediate. I can't even explain it. It was just like everything in my heart just broke open,” she recalled. Though an unbelievable story, the two are happily supporting each other. Hunter even met with a sister he never knew he had. Lindsey, on the other hand, was blessed to know that she was also a grandma to Hunter’s 4 children. Lindsey was going through some health issues when the duo reunited so Hunter immediately took over his son's duties and began helping his mum.
Things got even stronger for the duo when they started running the bakery together. “You can't make up for time and days gone by. What you can do is properly utilize the time that you have,” he remarked, per PEOPLE. Despite their wholesome meet, they remain astounded by the fact that they’d been in the same neighborhood for years without a clue. Lindsey records it as the “most joyful moment” of her life. Having a family and hope to look forward to, Hunter has several plans underway. One of the prominent ones includes keeping the bakery as a family business and passing it on for generations to come.
