She spotted a $300 Louis Vuitton wallet on their first date and assumed he was rich — but how he got it revealed a bigger green flag
Sometimes, first impressions do not reveal the whole story. When X user Anna Lee (@CRELeasingLawTX) went on her first date with her now-husband, she noticed him carrying a Louis Vuitton wallet. She immediately assumed that he was rich; however, when she heard the backstory, she realized that she had bagged herself the biggest green flag. Posting the story on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Anna Lee shared that a simple detail revealed his entire character during their date.
On the first date with my husband, I noticed he had a Louis Vuitton wallet. They’re not “that” expensive (probably $300 back then), but the last guy I’d dated was offensively cheap, so I thought “okay, this guy is willing to buy nice things sometimes.” A green flag after dating a… https://t.co/pe9XwkN1de

During their first date, Attorney and X user Anna Lee noticed her husband carrying a $300 Louis Vuitton wallet. Although the cost wasn't too high for her, it was her first time dating someone willing to pay for nice things after having gone out with a miser before. However, he soon revealed the story that left her awestruck by his integrity. Apparently, he had found the wallet on the ground and immediately tried reaching out to the owner. After failing to contact them, he decided to mail the wallet to the address listed on the driver's license. However, the wallet was returned to him, and after he consulted his dad, his father advised him to keep it since it had come back despite his efforts to return it.
Anna, who was floored by the man's integrity, realized that he was the green flag she had been looking for. Oftentimes, people are so consumed by greed that returning lost items isn’t something they even consider. Anna's husband could have refused to find the owner and kept the wallet for himself. After all, who wouldn't want to own a Louis Vuitton item? However, his choice to go out of his way to return it and only keep it after failing to locate the owner showed his honesty. Soon after Anna's post gained massive traction, many users commended his character.
@udemeAkpan01 noted, "The part that got me was him mailing it back. Like he didn't just make one effort, he made several. That's not something you do for clout or because someone is watching; that's just who he is. You found one of the rare ones, sis." @NJRedJax recounted, "I found a wallet on the ground of a car wash (self-clean). It contained $300 and, credit cards, and a license with a Miami address. I mailed it back to him." @theonlyredbaron remarked, "What a great story. Moral character is even more important!"
The man's kind gesture reminds us of teenager Tommy O'Connor, who spotted a lost wallet on his way to a shop. O'Connor, who had been struggling financially, could have taken the bunch of hundred-dollar bills; however, taking the money "never crossed" his mind. He soon returned the wallet to a teacher's assistant, hoping that it would reach the rightful owner. The owner, who then learned of O'Connor's kind gesture, gave him $50 as a gesture of gratitude for honesty.
