She was instantly attracted to a good-looking man at a café — but the way he treated the waitress made her change her mind about giving him her number
A friendly smile or an interesting conversation may seem promising, but small actions can reveal more about a person. Relationship coach and content creator Monica Wadwa experienced this while working at a cafe when a good-looking man caught her attention and later approached her. In an Instagram video she shared from her account @withlove.monica, Monica explained why she decided not to give him her number after noticing his behavior towards a waitress.
Monica was sitting at the cafe working on her computer when two men arrived. One of them caught her eye, and they exchanged smiles as she continued working. She also overheard them discussing their businesses. Later, the waitress came over to their table, and the content creator noticed the men's behavior toward her was completely different from the way they had spoken to her. They complained about small things, including the size of their water glasses. That was when Monica decided she was no longer interested. The waitress had already been kind and friendly with Monica.
The relationship coach felt a difference between politely mentioning a problem and speaking rudely to someone over something minor. She continued working but kept the incident in mind. A person's behavior toward service workers can reveal more than how charming they are with someone they want to impress. After returning from the bathroom, Monica found the man trying to start a conversation with her. Although the content creator remained polite, she did not encourage the conversation. The man was friendly, asked questions, and invited her to join him and her friends while his friend was DJing that night.
When she said she could not go, he asked for her number so they could meet another time. Monica knew the real reason she did not want to share it, but she avoided confronting him. Instead, she said, "I have a boyfriend," and left the matter there. She later questioned whether she should have been more direct. Looking back, Monica felt she had noticed an important warning sign before the man ever asked for her number. She said kindness should not depend on what someone hopes to receive in return. For her, a man being respectful to everyone around him would have been more attractive than being charming only when he wanted something.
How a person treats others can reveal a lot about their overall personality. In another similar incident, a woman reconsidered a date after seeing how the man reacted when a waiter made a mistake. At first, she had enjoyed his company and thought they might meet again. But near the end of their meal, several plates accidentally fell and broke beside their table. Instead of showing concern, he laughed. His reaction had already made her uncomfortable, but he later used the R-word during their conversation, which made her certain she did not want another date. "No second date. Block instead," she later shared.
