Single mom received strange letters from her ‘lonely’ neighbor after she ignored him — but what he wrote in one made her call the cops
A new neighborhood can bring friendly faces, but it can also lead to situations that leave people feeling uneasy. One mother found herself dealing with repeated unwanted attention from the man next door. TikTok user Lexi Carper shared how the person kept leaving handwritten notes at her doorstep after she chose not to engage with him. She later posted the experience on her account @lexicarper on April 17, 2026, explaining how the messages continued. While the first interactions seemed unusual, one of the letters eventually crossed a line and prompted her to contact the authorities.
Carper explained that the man first offered to help carry items when she was moving into the apartment, but she politely declined. About two weeks later, he returned with dinner, saying she had been a good neighbor even though they barely knew each other. One day, she noticed him hovering near her door. She later found a letter inviting her and her children to dinner. The stranger penned the latter inappropriately, adding that he hoped she could “help dissolve some of this loneliness.” He even mentioned that he was never married and gave unwanted information. That message made the mom contact the sheriff’s department.
This wasn't the first note he had sent. In another letter, the man wrote that her children were “so adorable,” adding that her daughter was just like her. He also told her that he found her “super adorable,” making the messages feel unsettling. Although none of the letters included direct threats, the young mom felt the repeated comments about her and her children crossed boundaries. Trusting personal instincts can be important when someone's behavior begins to feel suspicious. Difficult neighbors can make everyday life stressful. In another incident, a woman named Erica shared how repeated unwanted interactions with a man next door slowly made her feel unsafe in her own home.
She explained that she had persistently asked him to leave her alone, both in person and through text messages, but he kept approaching her. During one confrontation, he claimed his behavior had only been “a joke,” but she firmly replied, “That’s not funny to a woman who lives alone.” Instead of understanding her concerns, he continued laughing and ignored her repeated requests. As the stalking continued, the woman said she no longer felt comfortable even inside her own apartment. When she warned that she would call the police, the neighbor questioned her and even told her, “You've got a personality problem.” After dealing with the situation for more than a year, she decided to speak publicly about her experience, hoping it would encourage others to take similar concerns seriously.
