Son learned mom’s kidney was functioning below 10%—he stepped in with the most heart-melting gift

A man named Aaron McDonald came through with a heart-melting act for his mum Kris when he learned about her kidney failure, per Newsweek. He shared his story as u/GallowsGrove on Reddit and one can’t help but admire the unconditional love the duo shares. His story is an inspiration and an encapsulation of the invaluable assets love can hold. Kris was born with a condition called Primary FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis), which affects the functioning of the kidneys.

Over time, her condition began to deteriorate and in 2015, she was told that her kidneys were at a frighteningly low, almost below 10% functioning rate. This meant that Kris needed a kidney transplant and she needed it soon. When Aaron heard about the story, he stepped in without a second thought. It was his mother’s health and life at stake and he was determined to know whether he could be a match and do the honor of saving his mother’s life by donating his kidney. "After years and years of keeping the little b***** going, she finally accepted that she needed a new one and I was a perfect match,” Aaron noted.

The son confidently stepped in and gave this life-changing gift to his mum. Aaron recalled that the transplant was smooth and her recovery was impressive. "The improvement was almost immediate. Her energy and vibrancy returned before we left the hospital and she returned to work as a choir director at her church five days after the surgery,” he remarked. He added that his mother was “unstoppable” after the transplant, feeling strong and energetic with the lively kidney from her very own. In his post on Reddit, Aaron was delighted to share that he and his mom had completed a decade since the transplant.
Titling it his “10-year Transplantiversary,” Aaron shared a glimpse of a decade-old image of him and his mother in hospital gowns after a successful transplant. “10 years ago, I had the absolute honor of donating a kidney to my mother. She had been born with a rare kidney disease that left her with kidney failure since she was a child. Cheers to 10 years more,” he wrote. He also shared another picture of himself with Kris presently, the duo thriving and grateful as always. People were overwhelmed with the story and couldn’t believe how far the duo had come. u/Background_User said, “You’re a hero, she must be so proud of you!”
