South Carolina family was having a normal day until a FedEx courier knocked on their door. He saved their lives.
We never know what's definitely going to happen in the next moment. There may be danger lurking around the corner but at such times, it is only the kindness and astuteness of people around us that can prove life-saving. For a family in Tega Cay, things were like every regular day until a knock on their door by a delivery person gave them a second chance at life, per WBTV. Rashad Conwell, a FedEx delivery worker, was out doing his job and had a delivery scheduled in the neighborhood where the family was living. Conwell was used to the area, where he had been for 6 years, so he knew the neighborhood quite well. He had no idea his job on that specific day would extend beyond being a courier - he was a savior.
Conwell knew the people in the area pretty well. “The area is great. I know everybody by name. I know their kids, their dogs, what kind of cars they drive. I’m very used to this area and they’re very used to me,” he recalled. When he went to deliver the package to a home in the neighborhood, he noticed that the neighbor's garage was on fire. Without wasting a second, Conwell rushed to the door of the neighbor's house to notify them of the fire. He knew the family was mostly home, so he had to save them. “My initial thought was to get everybody out of the house because they’re always home, they’re always home,” Conwell said.
It was not minutes before the back of the house was in flames, per Queen City News. To the family’s luck, Conwell had cautioned them at the right time and with the help of another neighbor, they managed to get the members out in a jiffy. The door camera even captured one of the neighbors rushing over to warn them and asking them to get out of the house before it was too late. “I’m just glad I was able to be there at the right time,” the FedEx driver remarked. The family is full of gratitude for everyone who noticed something was wrong and rushed to help. After notifying the family and ensuring they got out to safety, Conwell continued on his route, considering it nothing but his duty as a human to help.
He went on with his day, getting to the rest of the deliveries. However, because of the huge fire, the fire trucks and other first responders had the route busy, leaving no room for Conwell to take his truck out. Despite the same, he fulfilled his duty as an employee and went out of his way to deliver the packages in due time. “So we had to wheel the packages from my truck to another truck, then to two more trucks and I had to finish my route,” Conwell added. Kristi O’Connor, journalist for WBTV, shared a post of the house burned and the FedEx driver with the story. She also concluded that everyone was okay and managed to escape at the right time. A little vigilance and a whole lot of thoughtfulness from the delivery man became the reason the family was saved.
