Stranger at the pub called a woman with short hair ‘disgusting’ and labeled her a lesbian — her one bald photo left him horrified and apologizing
No one has the right to judge a person’s personality or life story based on their appearance. A Reddit user who goes by u/Best_Corgi2385 shared a story on May 4, 2026, about one arrogant man who was convinced she was a lesbian because of her pixie cut. After she had had enough, she confronted him by showing him a picture of herself bald and explained that her hair was only just growing back. Looking at it, the man made yet another assumption that left him apologizing instantly.
The woman mentioned that she had really short hair, so one man who initially had been flirting with her pals began insulting her. “He was just being genuinely nasty, talking about how I was ‘disgusting’ and ‘unnatural,’ and telling my friends they should ditch me,” she recalled. He went on to assume that she was a lesbian because of her appearance. That’s when she pulled out a picture of herself from the time she was bald and informed the stranger that her hair was only just growing back. When he inquired further, she asked, “Why do you think some women become bald?" Without her uttering another word, he again assumed that she was a cancer survivor and began apologizing.
The woman didn’t have cancer; she had just donated her hair to charity and shaved her head for a good cause. He was extremely confident in his judgment, to the point that when she asked why he thought so, he said, “Only lesbians have hair like that.” Furthermore, he even accused the woman of forcing herself on other women when they were drunk and insisted that she not keep her supposed sexuality hidden from others.
He needed the reality check to stop and think. He later tried to explain himself by saying he had family members who had cancer and would never have made such comments had he known. The woman let him remain in the dark and replied, “There are a lot of reasons women have short hair. Maybe consider them before you start being a homophobic p***k." At the end of it all, she and her friends decided to leave, and the man was left feeling remorseful for his behavior.
She never revealed the real reason behind her short hair. “I know it was wrong to make someone think I had an illness. But I hope that this guy thinks twice before berating a random woman based on her hairstyle,” she noted. Standing up to someone making degrading remarks can send a stronger message than staying silent. In another instance, a woman named Whitney Rose was on a video call with a client and his male employees.
At the same time, she was accidentally sent messages from the group chat where the men had been making nasty comments about her. One of them read, “effing bombshell.” Calling them out, she said, “If we’re going to be working together, I want to work with a woman sales representative because I don’t want to see the locker room talk about myself when you’re sharing screens.” She immediately received an apology and was assured that a female employee would handle the pitch with her from then on.
