Stranger waiting for a parking spot yelled at a mom to “hurry up” as she put her kid in the car — so she pulled out her chopsticks and got petty

The young mom found a clever way to get back at the rude man without even having to argue with him.

Rushing others does not make things go faster; it just creates unnecessary tension. One young mother recently shared an encounter that began when a stranger became impatient as she loaded her child and groceries into her car. Instagram user Katie posted a clip about the experience on Monday, June 15, 2026. Sharing the video under the handle @katemlowery, she explained that a man waiting for her parking spot shouted at her to move faster while she was still making sure everything was safely packed into the car. Rather than rushing because someone else demanded it, she decided to handle the moment in her own way.

Instead of pulling out of the parking spot, Katie sat down and started eating lunch in her car. The clip showed her calmly using chopsticks on her meal while remaining parked. She explained what led to the decision, writing, “Some guy yelled at me to 'hurry up.'” According to her, the man had become frustrated because he wanted the space she was occupying. Katie was still busy securing her child and putting away groceries when the comment was made. Rather than arguing or responding directly, she simply stayed where she was and continued with her plans.

The video focused on her quietly enjoying her meal while the parking space remained unavailable. In the clip, Katie appeared completely unbothered as she ate her sushi and took her time. What began as a demand for speed ended with her choosing not to let someone else's impatience dictate her actions. The short clip instantly went viral, garnering over 888K views in a single day after being shared on the social media platform.

Many internet users also praised Katie's actions in the comment section. @carriezamagias wrote, "Yes, I would and have done the same. Do not rush me in a parking lot when there are other spots because I will move my schedule around to accommodate sitting there." @olivia.schlissel shared, "Someone lay on their horn in a Costco parking lot waiting for my spot, so I got out, took my baby out of her car seat, and had a nice, relaxed nursing session." @lolatyrr exclaimed, "This is the level of petty everyone should aspire to be, I love it!"

Sometimes the best way to deal with annoying people is to be a little petty yourself. In another incident, a homeowner found themselves at odds with a neighbor who strongly disliked their decision not to rake leaves. The neighbor was described as “a typical curmudgeonly old man” and often complained about it, even though “my leaves do not touch his yard at all.” Things escalated when the neighbor reportedly entered the property and moved a pile of leaves without permission. Rather than starting an argument, the homeowner quietly returned the leaves to their original spot later that night. The next morning, the neighbor became visibly upset, and the homeowner admitted, “It was glorious.”
