Couple stole a parking spot someone was already waiting for with their blinker on — one calm comment about their gorgeous car made them drive away
Most people have experienced the frustration of watching someone ignore an unwritten rule simply because they think they can get away with it. In those moments, the temptation to get even can be strong, especially when the other person shows little remorse for what they have done. A Reddit user who goes by u/heffalumpwalrus shared one such story on June 20, 2025. She had her car's turn signal on, indicating she was already waiting for a parking spot when another driver suddenly swooped in and took it. What began as an irritating dispute over an airport parking space eventually led to a response so simple that it left the offending driver reconsidering his decision.
After unsuccessfully trying to reason with the parking spot stealer, the woman parked elsewhere and walked back toward his red Camaro. At first, she was unsure what she intended to do. Then inspiration struck for a fitting response. Approaching the driver with a smile, she complimented his "gorgeous" car before delivering a single unsettling observation. "I know where your car is parked, and you don't know where my car is parked." The remark instantly changed the mood. Moments later, the driver pulled out of the space and left because he couldn't leave his car alone and risk it being damaged.
The woman admits she walked back toward the car with her keys in hand, fully intending to key it. She was furious after watching the driver take a parking space she had been waiting for and then dismiss her complaint without a second thought. Yet when she reached the vehicle, she abandoned the idea and opted for something far more psychological.
Instead of damaging the car, she planted the possibility that she might. There is a reason that tactic can be so effective. Psychologists have long noted that uncertainty often produces more stress than a known outcome because the mind fills in the blanks on its own. In this case, the driver was left to imagine every possible scenario for the rest of his trip, and that anxiety appeared to be punishment enough.
Sometimes, making a point does not require threats, arguments, or even raising your voice. In fact, the most satisfying acts of revenge often involve holding people accountable for behavior they assumed would have no consequences. In another instance, one elderly woman demonstrated exactly that after a couple repeatedly parked in a space she legally owned. The woman, affectionately known as "Granny" by residents of her apartment complex, owned one of the building's limited deeded parking spaces. Yet a newly arrived couple decided to ignore that fact and regularly parked there anyway. Even after she reminded them that the space belonged to her, they insisted she could simply use another empty spot in the garage.
Eventually, Granny decided she had heard enough excuses. One day, she parked her Mini Cooper directly in front of the couple's vehicle, blocking them in completely. Then she left a note informing them that parking in her space cost $150 per day and that payment could be left with the concierge. When the frustrated renters contacted her and claimed they had an emergency, Granny was unmoved. She added another $50 to the bill for waking her up and informed them she would move her car only after receiving the money in cash. The strategy worked perfectly. The couple paid up, and from that day forward, they never parked in Granny's space again.
