Traveler panics after leaving their laptop in a rideshare 20 minutes before boarding — the gate agent's unexpected offer surprises them
The procedure before air travel leaves little to no room for goof-ups. That is why passengers plan every minute detail. But what happens if something still goes wrong? One traveler who goes by u/Chrono77Drift shared a post on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, detailing one such experience on Reddit. They were at Salt Lake City Airport and had a few minutes before they could board. Unfortunately, they realized that they had forgotten their laptop in the rideshare. They hurried outside in panic and asked the gate agent how much time they had before their plane could depart. After explaining their dilemma, the worker came up with an unexpected idea.
The passenger had already contacted the driver and asked him to return with the laptop. In the meantime, they spoke with the gate agent, asking whether there were any delays or if they had even 10 minutes before boarding. When they explained why, the employee offered to hold their boarding pass at the desk until they arrived. The person waited outside for 8 minutes before the driver handed over the device. They hurried back and made it just in time before the doors could close. The simple gesture helped avoid a massive blunder, and the flyer was immensely grateful. The traveler urgently needed the laptop for work, but after seeing the schedule, they only had the option to leave the device behind or miss their flight. Luckily, when the agent saw there were only 40 people to board, they stepped in and offered to hold things for a bit.

The most astonishing part was that the gesture seemed to be a part of her job. “She didn't make a big deal about it, didn't even really smile, just handled it,” the passenger recalled. It prompted them to wonder how so many airport staff members are condemned and criticized for following protocol, but that day the employee “made a decision that saved me from a disaster.” Along with a reminder to check belongings before leaving a vehicle, the person also shared, “There are actual people making these calls and not just robots following scripts.” Airline staff and airport workers do their best to fulfil their duties and ensure passengers have a pleasant experience. What is hard to notice is that a lot goes beyond the description of their jobs.

Like this agent who silently saved the flyer’s trip, another worker stood up for a parent while boarding. One man was furious and said that he shouldn’t have to wait because parents and young children are given priority boarding. When the employee explained that it was the airline’s protocol, he replied, “Everyone has somewhere to be. Having kids was their choice.” The mom felt uneasy and considered waiting with the others, while the man was adamant about having his way. The agent solved the problem by assuring the mom that she could proceed because it was their standard boarding procedure.
