TSA agents couldn’t tell whether a traveler was male or female for a pat-down — what they did instead of simply asking made it even more frustrating
Airport security is designed to keep travelers safe, but the process can occasionally put people in uncomfortable situations. For some travelers, the discomfort comes from feeling like they are being treated differently instead of simply being asked a straightforward question. Instagram creator and coach Jackie J, who goes by @jcubedhax, said she experienced something similar during a TSA screening. In a video shared on June 30, 2026, Jackie described how two TSA agents seemed unsure about who should pat her down because they couldn't tell her gender. But instead of simply asking, their reaction left her feeling annoyed.
Jackie shared that she walked through the TSA checkpoint when an alarm went off around the tie of her pants, and she could already tell that she would need a pat-down. One of the male agents looked her up and down before turning toward a female agent, who also appeared uncertain about what to do. He glanced at Jackie again, then back at his colleague, and eventually said, “I don’t know.” Instead of asking Jackie which agent she preferred, the male agent pulled the woman aside and quietly spoke to her. The female agent then came over, conducted the pat-down, and told Jackie she was good to go. But when she turned back to the male agent, Jackie saw the two laughing, which left her frustrated and uneasy about the whole interaction.
Jackie said she didn’t personally care which agent conducted the pat-down and would have been happy with either one if they had simply asked her. “I probably just pick the closest person; I really don’t care,” she explained. What bothered her most was the way the two agents kept staring at her and seemed unsure how to handle the situation. She felt the interaction could have been much simpler if they had just treated her like any other traveler and asked what she preferred instead of making her feel like someone they couldn’t understand.
Jackie said the experience was especially disappointing because it happened on the last day of Pride Month. The video also brought supportive reactions from other Instagram users. @breezleweezle_ wrote, “Wow this is insane. I’m sorry,” while @sunnispeaksvegan said, “Oh my God, sorry Coach Jackie.” Another viewer, @jessicaj.page, joked, “They swear everything is a rush until it’s time for them to use their brain,” agreeing that the situation could have been handled more simply.
Airport security can turn a routine screening into an awkward experience, especially when a passenger feels they are being judged instead of treated with basic respect. Jackie’s experience is similar to another story where a woman named Alyssa, who had a brain stent and other invisible health conditions, was stopped while using the TSA line for disabled travelers. An agent questioned why she was using the line and told her that she should use a wheelchair the next time, even though she could manage without one. Like Jackie, she felt the situation could have been handled with a simple conversation instead of making assumptions about her.
