Two men noticed a traveler struggling with a heavy bag at the airport — one stepped in to help, while the other’s remark showed exactly what not to do

A simple act of help turned into an unpleasant experience, all because someone decided to bring his toxic masculinity into the situation.

It takes an empathetic and humane heart to see someone in trouble and offer to help without them even having to ask. One passenger, Angela Dsouza, who goes by @itsangeladsouza on Instagram, shared how one traveler was kind enough to notice her struggling and assist. In her video posted on Thursday, November 5, 2026, she mentioned that the man stepped in and lifted her suitcase for her at Halifax Airport during check-in. What felt like a wholesome win for humanity was quickly overshadowed by the bitter, unsolicited remark of another stranger in line.

Dsouza mentioned that she was visibly struggling to place her suitcase on the conveyor belt for screening. When a stranger saw that, he stepped in and lifted it for her. She was grateful for his help, but seconds into their interaction, a third person directed his rude comment at the man. He said, “I bet you do the dishes at home too,” and ruined the entire moment. It left the passengers upset. Not only was he not helping, but he was also discouraging other kind-hearted people from offering assistance. A simple act of help turned into an unpleasant experience, all because someone decided to bring his toxic masculinity into the situation.

Since when is trying to help another person a cowardly act? Unfortunately, society encourages men to be macho and adopt a reckless attitude, so even simple acts like these are considered less masculine. A study by YouGov showed that between 7% and 21% of men across different age groups believe that dominance is a positive trait. Around 10% to 20% think it is “very important for a man to be masculine.” Around 6% of Gen Z men said they believed aggression was a positive trait. This desire to embody these ruthless ideals makes people forget humanity and kindness.

It is only a hope that the gentleman who offered help won’t be put down by such attitudes. Commenters were equally disappointed in the man’s mindset. @bckeough3329 wrote, “He was a smooth talker - Not.” @pierrepj65 added, “So rude. Putting down a man for being kind.” @tylaemde remarked, “The guy in the line trying to burn the man that was helping you is ridiculous.”

Misogynistic and sexist attitudes say a lot more about the speaker than the person who receives such treatment. In another scenario, a woman overheard two male interviewers discussing a female candidate who had declined the role. They had met at a cafe for the evaluation, but due to personal reasons, the applicant turned down their offer and walked away. After she left, the two men started talking about her unpleasantly.

They made remarks like, “Doesn’t she know that she’s talking to two males who don’t care?” They went on to comment about how they were glad she had refused. The woman who overheard them noted that they were dressed in informal gym attire while attending the interview and showed little interest or professionalism. Their words later prompted her to share a public message with the woman. “Girl, you dodged a bullet,” she said.
