UPS driver saw a 97-pound package falling on a 4-year-old — his split-second reaction spared the boy's life

Sometimes, a second in time makes a difference in saving a life. For 4-year-old Max Pratt, this second played a crucial role in keeping him from getting crushed under the weight of a 97-pound package, per CBS News. The boy was spotted standing beside the package and before he could comprehend anything, the huge box was leaning against him and crushing him down. It was at that very second that a UPS driver, Marco Angel, turned around and saw the boy in dire need of help. His instant response thereafter had Matt’s parents thanking him profusely for saving their son’s life.

Little Max is out there trying to be a gentleman already. He often gets the packages left on his front porch into his home for his mum. The Ring camera footage captured the boy getting out of his door to grab this one too, except it was a hammock weighing 97 pounds. Max quickly realized the massive weight of the parcel and that he would not be able to carry it. However, he was too late, the box had already shifted and lost its balance. "I was scared I was going to fall down the stairs," the 4-year-old said. He began to scream for help. The delivery began falling onto the boy and soon enough, he was under it.

To make the day, Angel stepped in, just as his name suggests, and came in as an angel in a true sense to save Max. The footage showed the UPS driver across the road, heading towards his truck, when he saw the box begin to collapse on Max. He made a frantic and instant run across, heading straight for the door. "As soon as I saw the package tilt, I just started running back to it," Angel said. Max’s parents, who later saw their door camera footage, were stunned. "He didn't think twice. He didn't even look for traffic. He came sprinting. It was pretty cool,” the dad noted. In that second, all that the driver wanted was to avoid disaster and help the boy.

"I was saying, 'Help!' and then the package man just came back and lifted the box," Max said. Being a parent, his protective instincts kicked in hard. "I pictured my boys in his situation. You go into kind of full parent mode or full dad mode to make sure the kid is all right," Angel said. Max was luckily not hurt or injured and was fortunate to have the delivery man rush to his aid. He said of the package, “I couldn't get it – well, the package man got it." The grateful parents decided to hop on a virtual call with Angel to convey their thanks and relief after what they saw. Greeting him with smiles of relief and joy, the parents expressed their thanks. Max's mom said, "You are our angel, the way you flew in and helped him." Max, too, was excited to signal the delivery man a thumbs up for doing his job exceptionally well.
