Waitress found a folded napkin next to a big tip after serving a family — what the young son left inside meant more than money
Long shifts can be extremely tiring for waiters, especially when they have to deal with a wide range of customers. Simple things like receiving a tip, a kind interaction, and so on, can turn their day around. One Reddit user who goes by (u/Even_Maclaron_4279) was serving a family of three during a particularly busy shift. After they left, the employee noticed a napkin beside the tip, but what the little boy had left inside melted their heart. Sharing the wholesome story on October 17, 2025, the server expressed how emotional they felt after reading the note.
The family consisted of the parents and their son, who was likely under the age of 5. As the former were talking, the little boy was focused on coloring the kid's menu. They had a pleasant experience while dining and even offered a generous tip. After they left, the worker found a folded napkin with three crayons beside the receipt. To their surprise, the boy had written something inside. It read, "Thank you for being nice to my mom and dad." While they were delighted by the family's kindness, it was the note that made their day. "I kept that napkin. Still have it in my server book. Not every good tip is cash, I guess," they remarked.
The internet applauded the youngster for being thoughtful enough to appreciate the worker. u/Emotional-Goose-5879 wrote, "How awesome it is that kids recognize your service? Those notes are ones you frame and keep forever. Great job!" u/ThatAndANickel said, "That is a kid who is being raised right." u/dhereforfun remarked, "That kid is a future good tipper, and already a better guest than most adults." A little compassion can go a long way. The waiter's story reminds us of a Starbucks barista, Courtney, who wanted to make a customer smile. She mentioned that a woman who had come in to grab a cup of coffee seemed to be having a rough day. Despite grieving the loss of her mother, the worker interacted with her to try to make her feel better.
A little while later, she received a note from the customer. She thanked her for brightening her day and mentioned how Courtney was the only person "that has been genuinely kind" to her. Along with it was a $200 bill, as a small token of appreciation. The grieving barista was able to use the money to buy an urn for her late mother's ashes. She expressed her gratitude to the stranger for making her day and helping her fulfil her wish to finally afford an urn.
